Starship Troopers is getting a reboot, but this time the movie will be more in line with the book and the themes expressed.

Another reboot of a ’90s classic is in the works and this time it’s Paul Verhoeven’s sci-fi film “Starship Troopers.” Per the Hollywood Reporter, Columbia Pictures is rebooting the cult classic and has assigned Mark Swift and Damian Shannon, the writing duo who penned the upcoming “Baywatch” film and the 2009 remake of “Friday the 13th,” to write the script for the new possible franchise.

The studio is not planning on remaking the original film. Instead, it will be going back to the original themes expressed in Robert A. Heinlein’s novel about the military life of a soldier who moves up the ranks as mankind fights a war against alien bugs. No staff from the 1997 movie will be involved in the new reboot.

Neal H. Moritz, the “Fast & Furious” franchise producer, will be producing with Toby Jaffe, whom he worked with on Columbia Picture’s “Total Recall” remake.” Matthew Milam will oversee for the studio.

So there going to actually have the gorilla shaped Ironman suits? And the skinny's? I always though they'd be gun shy about it due to Blizzard and Games workshop ripping Starship troopers off so much.

I'm not sure how much more though, unless they want most of the movie to be expository classroom dialogue.

well, i like the original. so, if you are going to remake it, it is good to take it into a new direction. (like making it closer to the book.) just, make it good. Don't make me think the sequels are better movies. because they are awful. lol

That will be an issue. The opening chapter of the book is an amazing piece of sci fi action writing. Readers then go through chapters of lessons on how government should be in the hopes that there will be more sections like that first chapter.

I'd be fascinated to see it, although I don't envy the screenplay team's job on this one.

Seeing people who worked on Fast and Furious and Total Recall wanting to make a loyal adaptation of Starship Troopers seems like an oxymoron.

I'm sure the exciting classroom lectures and working on the mech suits and discussing history will be edge of your seat sequences! I kid, I actually quite enjoyed the book when I read it back in High School long before the movie came out, but at the same time, I can see a more faithful one that uses the Skinny's, talking bombs, bugs with guns, etc. I'm just not sure the real main themes will carry across.

I would love to see the Skinnys in live action.

I wish they would do the final three episodes to The Roughtneck Chronicles though.
