I always thought it was because he is such a persistant and mentally strong character that his spark will survive, wanting his dream to be leader of the Decepticons and killer of Megatron. That's just me.
This^ starscream always wants his name to live on as a great and powerful leader he doesnt want to die ou to the point that his spark cant because that all he wants with evrey fibre of his being
Starscream's origin has never been fully explored. In the original cartoon, as we know, he was destroyed in the animated movie by Galvatron, but returned as a ghost, posessing other Transformers' bodies and eventually being given a new body by Unicron. However, he's blasted by Galvatron, and believed to have died again. In Beast Wars, Starscream's spark slips through a transwarp portal and ends up in the past, as he takes over Waspinator's body. It's hinted at that point that Waspinator is actually the Insecticon Shrapnel. Either way, Starscream is blasted back through the transwarp portal (assumed) and disappears. He makes reference to Galvatron and Unicron (so we know this happens after the movie, and since Starscream wasn't "alive" for the revelation of Unicron, we also assume it's after the events of Ghost in the Machine from G1). The rest of the origins for Starscream are scattered. - G1 cartoon, he was an explorer and good friend of Skyfire, but abandoned him on Earth - G1 comic - no origin - Mixed IDW/DW origin states he was an aerial fighter/combatant who was incredibly skilled and gifted, leading him to the Decepticons for greater self-glory In Beast Wars, they say that Rampage was an experiment to clone Starscream's spark that went wrong. In Animated, we see a similar story, but augmented with a fragment of the AllSpark, as his "clone army" take on personalities for themselves, each showing a characterisitic of Starscream. Personally, I think it'd be fun to explore the idea that Starscream is one of The 12, if not a reincarnation of The Fallen aka Megatronus.
Since Rampage's spark was a result of trying to recreate Starscream's unextinguishable spark, I don't think "because he wants it" is a suitable explanation for Starscream's ability to survive beyond death. I have always thought of it as a natural mutation of some kind, but a science experiment gone wrong during his days as a scientist with Jetfire could be conceivable as the cause. (Although, I've never really believed Starscream was the scientist type, so in my personal canon he never was one. But there's room in the official canon for that explanation.)
Thats actually not a bad idea Galvatron's attack was much more powered up than any regular shot he might of used on anyone else out of pure revenge.
Not a bad theory. I always went with the idea that he couldn't rest until he took Megatron/Galvatron with him.
Thank you both. I just always felt it would add an "ironic twist", that Galvatrons attempt to rid himself of Starscream, ends up making him immortal.
There was an absoloutely hilarious mosaic of galvatron killing off loads of sweeps because he thaught his cannon turned people into ghosts.
Maybe he came across something during his exploration years, and wanted to keep it a secret to prevent potential rivals from discovering the process, or worse, a weakness in it. Or maybe he stumbled across something and has no idea how it works.
Me too. Either that, or Primus made one spark in every billion indestructable. Kinda like Willy Wonka's golden tickets.
