And check out this deleted scene shown at Celebration V. It will be included in the Blu-Ray set: YouTube - Return of the Jedi Missing Lightsaber Scene I got goosebumps when watching it.
Like many others, my enthusiasm for Star Wars has waned a bit over the years. That scene, though, brought back many of the good memories associated with the original trilogy. A great scene; it's a shame they cut it from the film. (Here is a backup in case that is removed: Return of the Jedi light saber scene.)
I like that scene. I wonder why it wasn't added back to the special edition that came out in 1997 seems like it would have made perfect sense. Still don't have a bluray player. as my tv works just fine I can't justify buying a new HD flat screen and with out one i can't justify a Bluray player.
Oh hell yeah! Also, knowing how Lucas loves money this is kinda a longshot, but I hope they take advantage of the seamless branching and space available on bluray discs to include multiple cuts of the movie on the same disc. The original edition, the 97 special edition, the dvd edition and this new bluray edition. Putting all of them on the same disc should really not be a problem.
I love me some OT Star Wars but am I alone in not feeling that's a necessary scene? It's kind of neat, but at the same time, I think there's still plenty of shallow fun in the "oh shit a new lightsaber and WTFBBQ IT SI GREEN" reveal that's in the existing versions. Maybe I'm just so used to it that I like it as is.
I like the movie thee way it is. I just really like the new scene. I wouldn't want it as part of the original mover though, unless it was on a separate disc with a different version of the movie.
don't know, it seems to me everytime it gets re-released, they make changes. unless it has the original unedited movie in it, *along with the changes* i am not interested.
No sale here without originals, or at least a reasonable equivelent reconstructed from the sources. Judging by Lucasfilm's track record with Star Wars DVDs thougth, i'd expect just the 04 master smudged to death with DNR. If your lucky, you might get the sound channels the right way round this time.
I agree. While that scene is unbelievably awesome to me, I don't see how it could fit into the movie. I like the theatrical version of Luke's introduction and the reveal of the new lightsaber. The only deleted scenes I would like to see put back into Jedi are the ones that show Vader Force-choking the Emperor's guards and various Imperials. They say they cut them because Vader did it so much in Empire, but to me, it shows the turmoil in Anakin's soul as he struggles with who he is, what he has become and the conflict with his son.
I'm on the fence as if it should be put in with the movie or just as a bonus feature. I love my Star Wars, but I love the very original before all the editing in later. However, at least this scene was filmed back then with the intention to be added. Make the Sarlaac normal, without the penis head sticking out. And DAMNIT! Put Bobas voice back to normal! Enough of this Jango clone bullshit! I like that they are releasing some of these deleted scenes that they made back when, but some of them just don't keep the flow of the movie rolling right. I'd love to see some of them: like the return to the falcon in a sandstorm, in ROTJ; or the whole Toschee station scene from ANH. Again, they don't have to be put back in the movie, just give me the features of the deleted scene. On a side note, I love some of the comments on the youtube video. Someone even mentioned about "He should of put on his sunglasses before screaming YEAAAAAAH!" You'd think that guy was on the tfw boards.
I love Star Wars. I'm not fond of some of the editing done to the trilogy except for The Ian McDiarmand Palpatine scene in Empire strikes Back and Jabba the Hutt in A new hope. But i love the new scene with Luke assembling his Lightsaber. I hope that's one of the few changes they do. I like the idea Gigatron had of them each having a disk of each version. One being the Original unaltered, 2nd being the 1997 version, 3rd being 2004 dvd version and the 2011 Blu Ray edition.
That lightsaber scene--as awesome as it was--doesn't make sense to me in the context of it being in ROTJ: So basically Luke has had zero lightsaber training between him getting his hand cut off in ESB and building a new one at the beginning of ROTJ?

love s.w. bout time. but i agree with some people here. the anticipation has dwindled. it's been so long that i've seen so many times i'm not even sure i'd get it as soon as it comes out. probably wait till it's on clearance or something. amazon has it on their site but no preorder yet
Shame that he didn't stick around. Imagine this guy working on the prequels. Lucas needed less yes-men and more people to challenge him. I'm not your typical "Blame Lucas for all the problems in the world" type like some, but let's call a spade a spade.
W/O knowing the specific details of the Blu-Ray release, i would assume part of the idea behind it is tocash in on the level of detail that a Blu-Ray disc can offer over a DVD
Who says (a) he didn't build a different one before the green one and/or (b) that deleted scene has to take place immediately before the other events of RotJ?
