Besides Kit Fisto, good luck finding a removable blade one for a reasonable price. As cool as the removable blade feature is, its not worth the asking price. From a review I saw, when blade is removed, theres a nice extra sound it makes when you try to power up...it makes the power up sound but fizzles out a half second through like there is not enough juice. But again, not worth the crazy aftermarket price.

Unless you plan on doing some serious cosplay where you don't want to walk around with a permanent blade hanging next to your leg, there isn't much reason to get a removable blade.

That said, I may be removing the blade on my Katana and just clipping the hilt to my belt to go watch Episode VII. :lol

When VII hits theatres I really hope there won't be any idiots who keep their sabers on as the movie plays.

Also, really debating with myself if I should pick up an Acolyte (no wrap) or a Disciple right now.

Only main difference I see between the two aside from the grip is the pommel being either flat or angled.

Thanks guy for all the insight about sabers. I noticed as well since I don't plan to walk around with a hilt that buying a removeable one is too much. Im thinking I will get a force FX Anakin one. Funny you bring up the acolyte wrecker. I am thinking of getting that one down the road when I save up a little for one. I am thinking that I might get a few star wars official sabers, but I think I would prefer to get the saber forge ones as there are a few that are just sexy as hell. Anyone have any saber forge ones? I believe they make the Katana one that you have right, Razer?

I've been out of the 1:1 saber game for a while now but the new movie is peaking my interest. Not sure I care for Kylo's hilt design and I'm wondering if other sabers will be in the film, other than Luke's ESB.

Yup, I have the Katana from Saberforge. Out of all the companies I looked at, they had the edges designs which I really appreciated. That and the fact that they're the only ones who made a katana hilt.

Makoto makes the brightest blades but I'm not sure about the rest of the saber in terms of quality.

But yes, if some idiot keeps their blade on through the movie, I hope they get escorted out.

    And Wrecker, leather wrap FTW.

Razer how long was the turn around time on your Katana? I am thinking of getting either the Fury, Viper or Venom as my first one from them. Also are the internals pretty good? Is your katana the Champion version?

I had a hilt made years ago by I think a company called randomsabers? Not sure if they still exist or not, but they did a phenomenal job on something I designed myself. Came out perfect.

I was browsing around, but I think that randomsabers is no longer around it seems. I could be wrong, but their stuff looked pretty interesting.

Alot of the custom sabers are made for full on duels at the force academy.Something I would like to do if I had the spare purse.

It took about two weeks. They quoted me 1-3 weeks turnaround which was a lot less than what the wait is if you ordered directly from their site.

At first I went through their Etsy site since everyone mentioned that route having a shorter turnaround. The stuff they sell at Etsy is pretty much pre-made stuff which they then assemble which would be why the turnaround is shorter, I think.

Either way, I had some pretty specific stuff I wanted done like the tsuka-maki and weathering so they directed me to one of their lead sabersmiths. I talked to him directly and he was more than helpful on answering questions. If you are interested, ask for Justin Polachek. He's the guy that made mine.

Yea I was browsing their Etsy site and it looks like they charge a premium on there to get the same stuff. Did you end up just working through Justin and setting up an order through him? The more I think about it, the more I think I might go the champion route with weathering as well for a viper saber. I would love to cut down on the wait though as it looks like it is around 12-14 weeks on their site?

Huh, that's weird. A champion class Katana on their site is the same price as the one on Etsy once you make the options the same. Not sure why the Viper is so much more expensive on Etsy.

How much customizing do you plan on doing? If a lot, then I'd suggest directly contacting the custom department at [email protected].

If what you want done is pretty close to what they sell as stock items, then perhaps going through their site is the only option, but that might mean a long turnaround. I'd email them through the site and ask them if the turnaround has slimmed down.

Ah yea that is weird for the prices on the viper. Maybe I will try out getting a fury from Etsy as it looks like the normal price. All I want is the upgraded electronics and stuff that the champion one has and the weathering. Would be pretty rad to get one of these pretty quick.

I was pretty amazed that mine got here in two weeks. I was fully expecting it to be a bit delayed.

I am very curious about the new Black Lotus. That thing looks wicked.

Yea I just came across the black lotus as well. Also I think I realized why the Viper is so much. It is actually a descent with the added viper hardware on the end of it. So I guess its like a normal saber with the added parts which make it more expensive. Did you use the wall mounts that you can buy from saber forge or did you make your own wall attachments?

I went to Home Depot and got some of those rubber covered bike and utility hooks. Very cheap and not bulky.

I put up the kid's Ultimate FX sabers today using 3M broom/mop wall mounts.

Wow even the kids got sabers! I like the 3m broom wall attachment. Is that an adhesive or can you anchor those in the wall? I am looking to display mine vertically. I just got an anikan force fx one off ebay. Looking forward to seeing how that turns out. The fury is calling my name though...

The 3M ones are on Command adhesive strips. They can only hold up to 4 lbs which is plenty for the Ultimate FX sabers.

Im not sure if my Anikan one will be light enough since it is the old masters replica version. The ultimate ones are made out of plastic right?
    Thanks for the info.
