More and more I'm of the opinion that there are so many it's easier to go by tiers instead of a discrete list.

    Top tier - excellent films
    THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK
    THE LAST JEDI

Second tier - good action/fantasy adventures
    A NEW HOPE
    RETURN OF THE JEDI

Mid range - worth a watch once if you're not a fan of the franchise
    REVENGE OF THE SITH
    ROGUE ONE
    THE FORCE AWAKENS

    Low tier- dumpster fires
    THE PHANTOM MENANCE
    ATTACK OF THE CLONES
    SOLO

Hum.....I don’t think any SW qualifies as a “dumpster fire.” I would put AOTC or Phantom Menace up against just about any sci-fi movie in the last couple decades and they’d crush ‘em. Although I don’t think Solo really deserves to be in the same breath as TPM or AOTC. Hell Solo as weak as it is, is Shakespeare compared to Aliens Covenant, The Predator, I don’t even know that the last Terminator movie was. SW is like high-end sci-fi operating on another level.

I'm not suuuuuper convinced on this.

Off the top of my head the following are better science fiction (or futuristic fantasy, I suppose) movies than AOTC or TPM: Ex Machina, Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and 2, The Matrix, Blade Runner 2049, Serenity, District 9, Elysium, I Robot, Interstellar, Edge of Tomorrow, the Planet of the Apes trilogy.

To be there are are a slew that are around the same level - Valerian, any of the JJ Abrams Star Trek films, Prometheus, Ready Player One.

There's certainly a batch that they're better than - the AVP films, The Predator, any Terminator ending in a number higher than 3, Alien: Covenant, Jupiter Ascending.

Ah well played I think you’ve come up with a decent list. I like all those films except Serenity (never seen it, sorry). I’m going to give advantage to TPM and AOTC because every single one of those movies rely on our world, earth continuity to work. Jesus especially GOTG, it’s a love letter to the 80’s. I think Arrival is one of the best movies I’ve seen. But for me SW gets a massive leg up by being pure fantasy, Lucas created an entire universe not unlike LOTR. In fact more than half those movies.
ExMachina, Blade Runner, District 9, Elysium, I Robot, Planet of the Apes, Matrix...
I’m a little iffy on including Instellar are sci-fi in the tradition of social commentary. As much as they’re telling a sci-fi story they are delivering a social message. Now that’s a pretty important part of sci-fi but Lucas was always doing something more expansive than that. It was always a larger story about the heroes journey and the human condition, it was always myth and a much bigger swing for the sci-fi fences than those movies. SW exists in its own timeless space those movies are very much current sci-fi, reflecting our current concerns.

I know. It was a tough call deciding whether to rank TPM among the worst of the lot but in the end I decided that a lot of my enjoyment of it was pure nostalgia and not necessarily reflective of its qualities as a film. Tough call though.

That ap is weird because it keeps asking me to compare titles again and again, and the first ones it's asking about are the ones I like least. SOLO vs TFA, TLJ vs SOLO, TFA vs TLJ... Er, pass?

Very cool. Didn’t realize who’s origin story it was, until the very beginning of the “One Year Later” bit — kid’s new outfit was a giveaway.

Speaking of fan films, a YouTuber known as Jamie Costa is currently crowdfunding for a fan film centering around Obi-Wan Kenobi that takes place not too long after the events of Revenge of the Sith that he is in the process of making. He is the one that made this particular SW fan film:
