Turns out Forces of Destiny was a legit title, belonging to an upcoming YouTube anthology micro series focusing on the heroines of Star Wars.

Rey, Ahsoka Tano, and More Iconic Heroes to Star in New Star Wars Forces of Destiny Animated Micro-Series | StarWars.com

They got Daisy Ridley, Lupita N'Yongo, Ashley Eckstein, Felicity Jones, Tiya Sicar, and Vanessa Marshall back as Rey, Maz, Jyn, Sabine, and Hera. Also seen in the video is Matt Lanter, back as Anakin, and Leia will also be a big part of it.

Looks great! I like the animation.

I have a sneaking suspicion someone beat me to it, but here it goes.

That's really neat. I'm surprised they got all the voices back too. I'm hoping it's as good as those DC Super Best Friends Forever shorts (which this kinda reminds me).

Very cool. I look forward to checking these out.

They must have a lot of faith in this series, since they're also producing action figures for it.

I don't wanna be that guy but doesn't a series based exclusively around the female characters seem a little like pandering to the you-know-whos. But whatever, this show doesn't look like it's going to be that big a deal and it looks like it'll be some simple fun. I'll give it a watch. Just hope it's not as dull as Rebels.

It does come across as a bit pander-y, but I'm not going to pass judgement until I actually see it. Also, I kept expecting them to make a big deal of it in the video and they didn't, so I don't think there's any pandering involved. At least that I can see.
Regardless, I'm super excited for these! Especially since we'll be getting more Jyn!

I didn't even realise it was just about the female characters until I read the OP. The animation is probably gonna look terrible, though. Official Youtube series rarely have quality animation compared to what animators on Youtube do themselves.

Wasn't there going to be a Jyn Erso-centric novel that's going to be released sometime this year?

Yeah, I noticed that too. That's why I think there's a good chance these will be fun. I'm all for female empowerment, as long as it isn't rubbed in my face and the characters are actually likeable, which these are.

I read the OP before watching. I would like to think if I hadn't, I wouldn't have initially noticed either, although I probably would have.

I'm not sure, but there is Catalyst, which is a novel about Director Krennic and his relation to the Ersos.

This looks like interesting. I'm surprised they got all the actors back, especially Daisy and Felicity.

What, girls? That's the entire point. This is Star Wars doing the exact same thing DC Comics has done with their Super Hero Girls line: opening up a more girl-friendly marketing front to expand their merchandising line outside of the traditional boy-centric audience.

WTF. No episodes based on Yarna d'al' Gargan? Nice Disney. If you are a skinny girl, you get a series. Girls with weight issues and more then normal breasts amount, Disney won't feature you. :D

Actually Star Wars is one of the few franchises that can get away with doing this with limited accusations (which is fucking bollocks anyway) because their character roster is so damn massive with both Clone Wars and Rebels helping balance out the casts from the movies, plus everyone from the old EU.

Yupp, it's called Rebel Rising and it's coming in either May or June, along with Guardians of the Whills, a Baze and Chirrut novel.

I just don't see why they need a line dedicated entirely to girls for that. Just put more girls into existing lines.

You should try talking to some female Star Wars fans about it. It'll give you a better idea.

    They can do both.

Apparently, they wanted to get into the Action Doll game:

  Action Dolls. Huh. Seems kinda redundant but I suppose this probably has something to do with children being more likely to have boys V girls attitudes and trying to make action lines that are more appealing to girls who might not want anything perceived as boy-ish.

They should at least scale the droids to the figures. BB-8 might be right but WTF is with mini-R2?
