Then it becomes like comic books and you begin to wonder if they'll ever kill someone off permanently (which rarely happens).

Yeah, besides, just because Fett survived the Sarlacc in the EU, doesn't mean he'll be showing up in VII VIII or IX (though, here's hoping :D  ).

If they want to bring Mace back as some cyborg badass in the EU books/comics, that's cool, but let's try and restore some former glory to the Star Wars movies. These new movies will be closer to the orignal Trilogy time-line, so I'm hoping for a return to that quality of story-telling.

Despite what these actors want, no one should be brought back unless there is a part written for them, before-hand.

Yeah, the other characters that truly need to be in all 9 movies, are R2 and 3PO.

I agree. The R2-D2 and C-3PO have to be in VII - IX to help tie everything together. Even though I think it's really weird they were involved with both Anakin and Luke, they would be sorely missed if they weren't there.

Agreed on that one - they've been there from the very beginning, and we saw so many key events from their perspective, it wouldn't feel right if they were omitted (plus, they need to keep up Kenny Baker's record of having appeared on-screen in all movies!).

Nah, I don't think it's weird that they were with Anakin and Luke -- it just makes them one of the connecting elements of the overall story. What's weird is Anakin making 3PO, and Yoda knowing Chewbacca in Ep 3 -- that kind of stuff just makes the universe feel small.

Eh. I wouldn't say they HAVE to.
Huh? Episode of what? If you're referring to Clone Wars there's a separate thread for that.

That's gonna be a lot of Hamill if that's the case.

    Which I'm okay with.

    Hope to see Kyle Katarn.

From a comment in the article:

No. That's what ruined Jedi in the prequels. Their all-powerful yet nonchalant ability to do shit without trying. It became comical.

    Heh, well said.

I just pray someone working on this movie says, "hey, these new movies take place right after the originals, so they should probably be more like them than the prequels."

I wonder who they would get to play him? I wonder what the Kyle Katern who played the live version of him in Jedi Knight is doing now? He'd be a good choice.

He's been doing the Joker so long I don't think he can go back to being Luke.

Bale comes across well in the Force Unleashed content I can see a possible situation where he's involved in the rebellion in some odd way such as working with races we don't really see very much.

And he just never tells Leia he's alive after his homeworld gets blown up (I think his wife was dead by that point anyway) and if he heard Leia had been captured and executed he might have left the Empire and been hanging out in the Corporate Sector on somewhere obscure like Chiss, Tatooine or Zonama Sekot. Also Bale develops an odd friendship with Obiwan (one that may have actually served to help humanise Obiwan quite a bit) so he might still have a role in that regard - and remember people Obiwan is a serial fib teller.

Bale could even have been off Sith hunting.

Why are people remotely excited about this?

Obviously it will be the next big disappointment.

You see, the Star Wars phenomenon is very much a thing of the late 70's, when we hadn't seen many films of that type around.

Nowadays we have far too many big budget blockbusters for them to feel new an exciting and I don't see a new Star Wars seven movies in really doing anything new within it's own franchise or cinema in general.
