    Don't say that! :(

As for how BB-8 works, I found a theory:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuTUYofiwcE

"The head is on magnetic rollers that use a computer program to make sure it stays upright while the ball is moving. The ball is some sort of motored gyroscope, controlled by remote."

It is, quite frankly, one of the greatest props ever made.

The reason we all thought it was kinda dumb was that it was an impossible design to build or so we thought. I was thinking that they wanted to make a droid that the fans couldn't just slap together in their garage. And now here we are. Can you imagine what could be done with this? If this can be scaled up and can hold a good deal of weight, think of all the applications that could be implemented.

Hell, even at that scale put a go pro on it and you have a ground drone that could go almost anywhere. If it's water tight and light enough, could it float and move in a pool? There's just so much I'd like to know about this wonderful little marvel.

I don't know if it's that simple, The fact that the ball turned, not moved in any direction but just turned 90 degrees left and right without the dome moving at all leads me to think there is either a lot more to it than we think or it's one hell of a simple trick that we're not seeing.

The dome didn't just balance on top of the ball either. It moved forward and back and turned without moving the ball. This is what has me stumped. Your video was one of the first things I thought of but it's just so much more advanced and fluid for that to be how BB-8 works. I would love to see the guts of it as it's gonna drive me nuts trying to figure it out.

I agree it's one of the greatest props ever. The only way they can top this is with a real working Lightsaber or a real Repulsor lift speeder.

I figured that the ball part is an upscaled one of these -
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1S5lUDvlu3A
and the head part is similar to what was posted in those vids - a gyroscope balanced unit with motors to move it around.

They mentioned during the panel that some company developed a new technology for it? Possibly a Disney subsidiary I don't know, it had some connection to Disney but I forget what.
I wonder how expensive it is. One of the license holders is producing a full scale remote control R2 so it would cool to get a full scale remote control BB-8 one day.

Wow, how did I miss that little fun toy. That looks very handy, especially as roller/mouse for a tablet. Whatever is driving it seems to be similar to BB's ball.

I do think there is some sort of connection between the two parts because if the dome moved to far off of it's center of gravity sitting on top of the ball, it would just fall off of it especially when the ball would move around. You would have to have the two guys controlling it by remote be totally in sync with each other to make it work.

While an interesting design, given the bot's ability to turn and move on a full 360 degrees, I think BB is a little more advanced than that. Neat comic tho.

Perhaps this will sound naieve of me, but is it possible BB8 uses magnetic force to allow the top and bottom portions to move independantly from one another?

Seeing Vaders helmet gave gave me chills. I hope he has some form of pressence in the movie, kinda like smaug in the later parts of hobbit 3. U kinda feel like he is still there or an influence.

I still believe flashbacks have no place in a Star Wars movie.

That's closer to PTSD than just a normal flashback.
