    Hello.

I would like to reiterate the rules of the forum, particularly these two:

    1. No Insults, Trolling, Flaming, Name Calling, Harassing, Etc.
We will not tolerate insults, excessive profanity or throwing a topic off course. Use of racial, bigoted, sexist, or discriminatory terms or phrases is not accepted. Posts intended solely to antagonize others are not accepted. Keep topics/posts where they belong. Generally, “play nice”.

    13. No Disruptive Posting or Flamebaiting
Do not purposely post anything which will cause another member (or members) to react negatively. This is subjective. The TFW2005 staff will evaluate the trend of posts made by those consistently being reported or those that are repeatedly involved with arguments on the site. If their overall method or content of posting leads to staff attention repeatedly, we reserve the right to warn, infract and/or ban accordingly.

That being said, yes, the Ignore function is always available and is an appropriate way to preserve the peace and enjoyment of the boards for all involved.

Please carry on but know that this thread is being monitored by moderators. Emphasis on the "s".

Does that include Barriss Offee bombing a military installation using nano-explosives she used the Force to compel a maintenance worker to eat so she could use him like a suicide bomber and then frame her best friend for it? The Jedi Order was corrupt but not in the sense that behind closed doors they were taking back-handers from politicians or lobbyists or anything, but they'd ended up perverting their own morals and codes to fight a war. A war which incidentally they saw fit to send adolescents to fight. Also why do you want monks leading your armies? Isn't that what you have an actual military officer corps for?

Whatever the Jedi Order was when Lucas invented it in his head, what they presented to us in the PT and Clone Wars wasn't something that civilized nations should have tolerated. I mean if some creepy bastards in robes showed up at my door explaining that because my kid had superpowers they were now required to be taken from me and sequestered away from meaningful human contact with their family, I'd tell them to go **** themselves.

Was that... This is a genuine question I haven't seen the Prequels in years, Star Wars is just three movies for me, was that in the Prequels? Because I don't remember that at all.

If it's from The Clone Wars, that's a little different. Because that show was (is?) all about the intrigue and adventures that wouldn't go into an actual Episode (TM), and you can include moments like that that would drastically change our perception within the context of the actual movies. And I'm assuming that the Jedi Council was either unaware or not on board with that plan?

If you want to say "Individual Jedi did a bad", you could point to Count Dooku or Darth Vader. They embraced the Dark Side and blew up planets and what not.

You've also got to consider that the whole Balance in the Force reinterpretation is heavily a Dave Filoni thing. It's in Clone Wars pretty deeply and then they go buck wild with it in Rebels from what I understand. I know Lucas was involved in Clone Wars pretty heavily but it seems strange to me that his actual movies he produced never once referenced or entertained that interpretation if it's what was intended.

Well yeah because they're diplomats, not generals. Sidious' whole plan was to spread them so thin that he could take control with as little pushback as possible. You've also got to consider that even though the Republic itself is designed to resemble a liberal western democracy, a lot of what we're shown in it's day to day operations is much more feudal. The Jedi Knights are analogous to Samurai, not anything that exists in the modern world, and from what we're shown they function as such.

They did fail because they went to war, but they were pushed into it by vague tensions Sidious heated up to a boiling point. Now, what exactly those tensions were literally never being explored even though the Republic was this shiny perfect thing before the Clone Wars is a pretty major storytelling flaw. But the Prequels are a bunch of good ideas in need of a strong collaboration process in order to iron them out and present them properly.

There's another thing. Jedi pick kids up really young because Lucas wanted to "rhyme" Anakin's rejection with Yoda's rejection of Luke. But Anakin is a lil baby boy. So now they just show up and take small children back to the state to be trained. It really is something the Empire should be doing!

Just as a screenplay note on a film from 1999, age Anakin up. So that those negative experiences on Tatooine could really shape him (as opposed to the loving, if boring environment his son grew up in), and so you lose the whole "We'll take your son and make him a weird monk even though he can't make decisions yet!" angle. And maybe they go back for his mom at the end of The Phantom Menace, but she's already been sold off, and now you're left with a hanging question for the next movie and a better through line for the emotional journey he's about to go on. God if George had been able to get his hands on a proper collaborator at the time...

Er... isn't that the one who ended up bombing the Jedi temple? Not really a good example.

I remember it being a military installation, but since @Galvatron II was talking about the Jedi not making any decision that didn’t benefit the galaxy as a whole, I felt compelled to point out that Barriss did that.

Barriss was the one who bombed the Jedi temple and blamed it on Ahsoka. Maybe you mean a different character?

It was a military installation and the Jedi Temple, I'll let you decide how that fits into your point. But yeah, definitely remembering the nanomachines too and there is a point made that Republic Military Personnel and civillians are killed in the explosion and while a literal extension of the Jedi's compromises I don't really remember them mentioning before or after that the Jedi Temple is renting out space for a military base so easy enough to forget that is the same bomb.

That is a long sentence. Just want to acknowledge that because I'm doing nothing about it.

I am not too optimistic about IX. Apparently the script was very long and there was a lot of improv/ad lib involved. Doesn't fill me with confidence.

I’m glad it won’t. But it sounds like it’s going in another direction after this anyway so it’s easy to check out. Hell it’s easy to check already, no reason to suffer through any of this.

It was the Jedi Temple's own hangar for their starfighters and vehicles, and it was a terrorist attack against the Order itself by someone who had actively despised the Order.

No, it was Barriss and she did it because she despised what the Jedi Order became. She very specifically points out after Anakin throws her arse into the courtroom that's about to give Ahsoka - whom Barriss framed -the fucking death penalty that she felt that the Jedi Order has lost its way with the war and that the bombing was her only recourse. A Jedi padawan turned another living person into a suicide bomber against their will and then used them to blow up ostensibly her comrades. A Jedi made that decision, a Jedi went through with it and a Jedi tried to cover it up.

Are we also ignoring that Anakin is a Jedi when he revenge massacres the Tusken Raiders, beheads Dooku and takes Mace Windu’s hand? All those things he does for himself, not the galaxy and he is a Jedi the whole time.

You have to separate the idea, the name “Jedi,” and the dogma from the people. Isn’t that the whole point Lucas is making, people matter and not rules. That’s why Yoda jettisons all the dogma post Clone Wars, it’s more hurtful than helpful.

I've been reading about this on Reddit, apparently that's not the title date. It's just that guy's embargo date. No one's really sure what the embargo is for, but it's highly unlikely he even knows the title. But I don't think they'll quite wait that long to reveal the title. They'll surely reveal it before or during their convention in April.

I highly doubt we're gonna have to wait until May the 4th. At the very latest it'll be in mid-April during Celebration, when I'm almost positive we'll get the first teaser trailer

I hope so. But JJ does love his suspense.
