We will have to wait until then to find out then. Either they're misleading us or Luke is not her father.
Whoever they are, they're almost certainly someone who lived into the New Republic era given Rey's age. Unless of course there's some crazy reproductive technology involved eith a character who died during the Empire days, but I seriously, seriously, seriously hope that's not the case.
I think they will reveal who she is in ep8. They seem to want to mimic the OT. Big reveal in Empire is the "I am your father". So do the same between Luke and Rey in Ep8
Am I alone in hoping Rey's story is more imaginative than simply being Luke's kid? What kind of reveal is that? Luke and Vader was a shock. Luke and Rey would be completely ho-hum. Please let the writing be better than that.
Guys, the article isn't suggesting that SW9 is when the reveal will happen. The director of SW9 is simply saying that the reveal will be satisfying, whenever it does take place.
Agreed... I hope that she isn't a legacy character at all. We already have a legacy character in this trilogy with Kylo Ren / Ben Solo.
If she is Luke's daughter, I don't think it is supposed to be that big of a surprise. Remember that most of us expected Kylo Ren to be Han and Leia's son, and that was revealed casually about forty minutes into the movie.
Rey will turn out to be a clone used from Luke's severed hand. That will explain the connection to the lightsaber.
Very true. It's the identity of her mother that's going to be the surprise. So in the spirit of Zhadow's post up there: Episode V: Luke gets his hand cut off Episode II: Anakin gets his hand cut off Episode VIII: Rey gets her hand cut off?? C'mon, who's expecting it?
