Hate is a very strong word, but I will say that George was certainly better off when he was surrounded by other, highly creative people, who helped shape the Star Wars Universe, and would straight up tell him when couldn't work or was a bad idea.

The later George was mostly surrounded by fanboys and yes-men, and that's how the prequels were born.

Never said I hated George, so don't put words in my mouth. Lucas was a visionary, an idea man, who as Violater said, surrounded himself with the right creative team, a team that was able to bring his vision to life.

George made a mess of the prequels, plan and simple. He tried to go it alone, and paid the price.

Hey, George Lucas exists in Transformers, since he was mentioned by "O".

i don't think she's leaving the series. just leaving the jedi order.

after all, she and Ventress, are the only characters in this show, with out an already written fate.

Even the Holiday Special isn't all-bad, just mostly bad. The animated segment is great.

Finally got around to watching the last(?) episode. Badass Anakin (definitely holding back), great fights, and that ending music was wrenching but as much as I love Tim Curry he just sounded off. It could be because Ian Abercrombie was so on point as Palpetine but it just didn't mesh well with me. If they do start back up (doubt it) I'd love to see more focus on Anakin slipping further down to the dark side.

I think she's actually leaving the series. I heard when Ashley Eckstein was recording this episode, she broke down crying because it was like she was saying goodbye to the other cast members (they became close during these five years recording). Read that in an interview somewhere, can't recall where.

And even the Holiday Special was better than the prequels. At least it gave us Boba Fett. Then again, the prequels did give us Maul, Qui Gon, Dooku, and Grievous, so I guess there was some good to come out of it. On the flip side though, it also gave us Jar Jar and Mace Windu.

    That's a pretty weak arguement.

By the same logic, if it wasn't for Akira Kurosawa, we wouldn't have Star Wars either. A New Hope is pretty much Hidden Fortress in space.

A lot of the elements that made Star Wars work was because of the collaborative process of filmmaking. Back in the day, everything didn't go according to the master vision of George Lucas. A lot of what he wanted got thrown out or polished by other people.

Obi-wan was going to be a crazy man, Han Solo originally had lines like Annakins, ESB was going to be far more comical and was going to have a sudden twist to the dark ending of killing off Han Solo. It took other people to take those ideas and others and change it to work. Lucas' strength as a filmmaker came from the technical side, not so much the emotional one. (THX 1138 is perhaps the best example of that. Shot brilliantly with fantastic ideas, but the characters are as flat as cardboard.)

Which is the problem with the Prequels. They had such a focus on digital production that the story is limp and emotionless, filled with wooden actors acting like jostled puppets because by that point there wasn't anyone to tell George Lucas what he was doing was stupid and that he should let someone else handle those aspects.

Yes, because that accurately portrays the entire fandom...

I don't hate Lucas, but I do dislike the prequels. But far beyond my dislike for episodes I, II, and III, is that he has made numerous changes to the original trilogy, while refusing to release the original version on new avenues of media (Blu-Ray). THAT is my main beef with Lucas, especially since he had once said this:

Now, it would likely take a deal between Fox and Disney, but if they could release a "Despecialized" Original Trilogy on Blu-Ray, then it would bring balance to the force.

You realize that he's talking about all those people who back in the OT days told him his ideas were dumb? And that he believes he can make any changes he wants to his movies, because they're his and no one else's. Or were anyway.
