I think it's awesome. I have a rule about only purchasing complete series sets of tv shows, instead of individual seasons. Hopefully this means the regular dvd sets will start to come down in price.

This should be costly. I'd imagine all seven seasons should be a few months worth of car payments...

Can't seem to open the link.

This has been known for a few months, anyway, but still good news. According to LeVar Burton (Geordi) - who has seen some of the new footage - the difference is "mind blowing".

Might just finally push me to buy a blu-ray player. Love this show.

I have the DVD versions of every series except, for some reason, season 2 of DS9. I'll be sticking with them.

That's why I've held off buying the DVDs. I knew I wouldn't bother with an upgrade.

I'm kind of lucky in that mostly I collected Anime DVDs. So now I can buy movies and some important TV series in HD without the double-dip.

Going back and re-editing the entire series and re-doing all of the special effects is a massive undertaking. I commend them for taking the time to actually get it right.

That said, I wonder if they still have all of their original EDLs, and if so, if they are simply going to "match frame" and overlay video over their original audio tracks? That might still be an a challenge if they used to "Wing it" back then. Either way, it's no easy task, but the result will be experiencing these episodes as they have never been seen.

The audio tracks are being pulled from the film masters to create a new 7.1 audio track. And they are claiming they will be doing exact edits so that the newly transferred episodes match up perfectly with the old ones. Just without the crappiness of being transferred from vhs.

That is going to be seriously amazing. Even more of a wow-factor than TOS, because not even the original TNG editors have seen it in this form (edited I mean). I might buy the three episodes in January out of curiosity. I think Farpoint is a boring-as-hell episode, but the other two will be nice.

This. I will buy these, no matter the cost. I will ease your mind by saying that, due to the time it takes to make these, we will probably get these a season at a time, and judging by the price of TOS on BD, if you jump on them first week, you can probably get them for 40 bucks at Best Buy. If not that, Amazon will always have them cheap.

    FUCK. ME.

Seriously this is awesome news! I wonder if they're going to go all weird and widescreen the episodes (kinda like the remastered TOS stuff).

Considering I think ST:TNG is the best TV series ever made, and I make a effort to rewatch the entire series all the way through every few years I think I can safely say I'll be getting these.

    I'm such a whore.
