I actually liked the rapper. Glad I downloaded the full version a long time ago.

I liked the original, this is OK, except for the "know that when things get too
tough" parts needing to change chords there not to sound so damn monotone,
not to mention..yeah seriously nothing like beating a dead horse with a song or
theme, like Metallica with 3 damn Unforgivens....really 3?, granted I liked the
original and the second on Reload, but Unforgiven III, come on, sounded like
ass, I know you guys lost your "touch", maybe Stan has some for you from his new version to share.

Stan get some new material man, I loved the original, and liked "Dare" on the '86 sndtrk, but leave it alone and move on...

I'm a sucker for pretty much any Transformers music, so I say the more the merrier. From my count, that is now 6 versions of the Touch that have been released:

    1. 1986 version (from official soundtrack)
    2. 1997 remix version (more like a re-recording, from the 'Till All Are One botcon CD)
    3. 1997 concert version (from the 1997 Botcon Stan Bush and Vince DiCola concert, released at the 1998 Botcon)
    4. 2007 version (from Stan Bush's "In This Life")
    5. Sam's Theme 2009 version with rap (is still available from iTunes, for now at least)
    6. Sam's Theme 2010 version without rap

Did I miss any? I suppose you could count any bootleg recordings from either the 2007 or 2009 Botcon Stan Bush concerts, but I don't think either of those were significantly different from any of those listed above.

Seriously??!? I'm surprised Michael Bay didn't bother to use this song, it goes along quite nicely with the whole raping the G1 fans childhood motif.

Definitely more of a fan of the 80's original. You know, the version where the chorus doesn't sound like someone becoming a castration victim just to sound more like Linkin Park.

Better. But Stan, please just let The Touch stay where it belongs: back in 1986 and in our memories. I still listen to the original a lot. Still get chills thinking about Rodimus opening the Matrix, running through the firey hallway inside Unicron, and transforming for the first time as he gives Prime's iconic order to the other Bots. THAT'S what I think of when I think of The Touch, not creepy guitar guy and bad white rapper guy.

Here it is directly on YouTube (right-click and select "Watch on YouTube" from pop-up menu... clicking play won't work within this thread):

The look on guitar guy's face at 3:13 is epic. I don't like either version of this video (rap or no). I do like the original 1986 song though.

A lot of negativity in this thread. Sure the argument rings true that the touch should not be sung in the the arching Creed/ Linkin Park emulation. (Poooowaaaaar when alll Heeeeeeeeeeeels breaking loose)

But it can no longer be nicknamed " the dirty touch " from the previous incarnation so a point for that.

Maybe what I'm saying is that its not excellent. But at least I am comfortable listening to the whole song.

Oh yes... SO much better without the rap.:rolleyes2

This song was cheese in the 80's, it was cheese in Boogie Nights, and the new version was cheese with trendy nu-metal rap in it. Nothing has changed. The presence or absence of rap cannot improve or detract from the song in any way, really.

If you thought this song was awesome until it was "ruined" by rap, I think you need to start broadening your musical horizons a bit. :)

Feels like a lot lifted from the actual score, and queen's a kind of magic album... I'll admit I like stan bush's older stuff. But back then it was NEW. It'd be nice if he'd I don't know, make something NEW, instead of rehashing the same crap over and over that's lifting aspects from other artists.

Random side note - the original 86 version was used in a montage of UK Big Brother contestant Mario's more intimate moments with the other male housemates. Bit of a random choice, given that they nearly always go for something current and trendy :)

Better than the rap-rape :) rolleyes2), but still awful. Only the original and the remix that came out with "Till all are one" are good, by my point of view.

    Corrected.

The following may seem a bit harsh, but I just couldn't help re-writing the original lyrics in response to this new version. I could barely listen through it once. While I was curious about the version with the rap in it, and tried to listen, I just couldn't sit through it again. His attempt at forcing "The Touch" into the Linkin Park sound is just painful (I'm not a fan of their style anyway, but it really doesn't suit Stan), and seeing him sing it just makes it that much worse. This almost ends up with David Hasselhoff's videos in my book.

Anyway, here are some lyrics to the tune of the '86 version (which I still like)...

    [Keyboard Intro]
    You've lost the touch
    You've lost your talent

    WOAH!

After all is said and done
You should have left this song alone
    You've trashed it

    The genre that you emulate
Just doesn't make this song sound great
Makes you look like a fool

You were at your best in the original song
You've made it a mess and it's sounding all wrong

    You've lost the touch
    You've lost your talent

Now you try to keep up
But this new sound just doesn't suit you

    You're lacking heart
    You're forcing emotion

You know you should just give it up
    You've lost the touch

This isn't cool, this isn't "it"
You don't seem to know when to quit
    Just retire

You've drained the blood, you've pushed the will
You've rusted the mighty hands of steel
    Now you're losin' your ground

It was kind of a hit the first time around
Now it's sounding like shit, and you're dragging it down

    You've lost the touch
    You've lost your talent

Now you try to keep up
But this new sound just doesn't suit you

    You're lacking heart
    You're forcing emotion

You know you should just give it up
    You've lost the touch

    You're tryin' way too hard
You know you've lost the touch

You were at your best in the original song
You've made it a mess and it's all sounding wrong

    You've lost the touch
    You've lost your talent

    You've lost the touch
    You've lost your talent
