I honestly didn't think they'd do much better than Bee from Earth-Rise/Kingdom, so I'm pleasantly surprised to see this figure in all honesty. I kinda wanna get my hands on him now~!

Setting aside that there are plastic structures inside the back end of the car to prevent this from happening...

    upload_2024-5-27_21-54-30.png

What is the distinguishing feature of this spoiler? It's larger than the window it's surrounding. It eclipses the window. It eclipses the entire roof, really, in width and girth.

If that spoiler were fit into the SS86 Bumblebee toy, if that spoiler were to have to fit *inside* the back end of the car? It would have to be *smaller* than the back end of the car. It would have to be small and narrow enough to fit inside the back end of the car.

At that point... is the spoiler actually looking like a spoiler? Or is it now some kind of weird narrow collar?

Bumblebee’s chest is more narrow then the rear of the vehicle, so all the fake spoiler has to do is fit inside the back window portion, which isn’t a huge ordeal as not only can it be retooled to be a bit more spacious, but that the proportions of the spoiler itself can be slightly changed as to fit the required dimensions, something that occurs on EVERY figure that adhered to an animation model.

i guess it depends on whether you think that structural stuff inside the back end of the car kibble is there for shits and giggles or serves an actual purpose

Unless the portion of the roof of the car is remolded that includes the spoiler but keeping it the size it needs to be. It can also be done with the spoiler flipping up and back so a slight remolded backpack and connect with it flush.

So... I both like this and yet something has been nagging at me. And it finally hit me what that was.

G1 cartoon Bumblebee looks very much like a VW bug in alt mode with an especially round overall shape and yet his feet don't look especially like a VW bug in bot mode.

    They did the opposite here.

They gave him extremely VW feet and a less VW shape. Which us more like Pat Lee or licensing art.

Imagine he had the rounded central section and a small hood with a sharp angle down.

He'd be extremely accurate in robot mode and arguably a bigger portion of the car body would be accurate.

Essentially, they made him a VW front with a cartoon Porsche rear.

And I THINK it might have been better to do the opposite and slap a penny racer Porsche hood onto the front of a bug.

The roof looks rounded in those model sheet images, but it's straightened and sharpened off once it becomes his chest. Keeping that sharp-edged chest in both modes feels like a good call if we're avoiding making a Volkswagen beetle.

Personally, I think the main thing that makes SS86 Bumblebee look a bit off is simply the height of the windows. They're too tall.

Yeah that edit earlier, REALLY drove that home. I still think he looks fine stock, bit adding that yellow long the top makes him next level.

And now they can even be different molds! Use SS86 Bee for Glyph and ER Cliff for Tap-Out!

We really need a new Windcharger and they could do a three pack and include Botcon Rook as well…

I’d be down for that. Of the three remaining 84-85 minibots, Windcharger is most definitely the most in need of an update.

Powerglide and Seaspray need updates too… but Windcharger is the last piece of the 1984 Autobot checklist in WFC+.

Seaspray’s probably at the bottom of that list for me, his TR toy is pretty perfect, just a little small now.

But either way, they’re definitely the last missing pieces and all the more obvious for not being on the list of leaks for next year.

Seaspray is definitely more size so he matches the others. I temporarily have the OSKO Powerglide as a stand in for size until we get a new one of him.

They will probably come out with a two pack with Cliffjumper and both will have the blue windows.

I am really looking forward to getting this mold as Cliffjumper, I think I am good with netflix Bumblebee but if I didnt have him this would totally be bought as well. I think I just like BB and CJ being different molds and while the bot mode on the last SS cliffjumper was perfect, I did not like his ALT mode looking sooo Windcharger like

He only gets blue windows if he also gets blue limbs. No, painting them isn't an option, those parts are made of nylon.
