You know? I think I'm kind of the same way.

Primarily because there's not as many ways you could make a default / neutral expression look goofy or offputting in regards to mecha.... But when you try to make them look expressive it can look really off if done poorly.

OK seriously though.. someone has to say this. What are we paying for here?
    • Basic budget paint Job
    • No multicolored translucent plastic (TFA Bee)
    • Simplistic transformation / engineering
    • Tiny size
    • Not many or big accessories included
Wtf? At this point they're shamelessly milking nostalgia. This is not worth the price at all

Face sculpt at certain angles reminds me of AM Bumble bee and his Origins version.

I'd add on "very similar to an existing toy." It might well be a whole new mold with a totally different transformation for all I know, but looking at the robot modes of him and the Netflix version, I don't personally feel a pressing need to pay more to nudge his windshield down his torso.

Brr, I hope not - while I agree that the SS86 one is still a bit off the mark, I think those two are even worse! MP-21's has a droopy nose and smooshed edges, and I'm not a fan of the etched lines on MP-45; his face can look a bit like a mask from a horror movie. And I say this as a fan of both figures. I've tried to love both head sculpts, I really have. :)

Yeah, this always baffles me too. No one has ever seemed to manage a really spot-on, decent G1-accurate head sculpt. I think it's just very difficult to get right for some reason. There are plenty of *good* Bumblebee face sculpts - Classics, SS WFC, Netflix, Alternity - but all of them are "G1 cartoon inspired" rather than "G1 cartoon accurate", and don't try for the classic polygonal face shapes from the cartoon. I think the best attempts I've seen are Newage Herbie and Titans Return.

The SS86 face is far from terrible, but it does smoosh the sides a bit and give him a big chin. They got the shapes right on the box art though:

That said, I can hear Dan Gilvezan's voice when I look at this picture, so I'm charmed by the figure over all, and look forward to getting it in hand:

EDIT: The head sculpt actually looks pretty good in this video:

Yeah this video was the nail in the coffin.
    Don't need it.
    Don't want it.
    I have better options.

On the other hand, the transformation is pretty much perfect.
(The "ankle" tilts and ball-jointed shoulders are the only things I don't really like.)
I'd love to see this mould retooled into a proper licensed Beetle.
And even more-so, I'd love that hypothetical retool as an OS KO at MP scale.

Wait a minute, where's his extra accessories to justify his deluxe price? Not even a pack in Spike or some blast effects.

Also his legs look weirdly multi jointed.

Positives? This is going to be easily available for those that still haven't gotten a Sunbow style Bumblebee, I hope.

I think I like the head better on this one than the Netflix one- it has more personality to it, despite not really having an expression.

The transformation looks fun and his backpack is reasonably sized. I like this Bee!

    Thanks!

Okay, I like this, this is the transformation that I wish Netflix BB had. Not a big fan of ball jointed shoulders, but that's a small quibble. I'm not going to go out of my way to pre-order this, but it might be fun to have something to hunt in stores, especially if he is as plenteous as they said he would be on the fanstream.

I’m torn. The figure looks great, but he’s disproportionately let down by the whole roof chest piece IMO. The headsculpt looks good sometimes, but odd from other angles. The black pieces in the shoulders detract from the continuity and simple block shape that the cartoon model has.

I really hope Toyhax listen to some of the complaints when it comes to the roof, like making shorter rounded window shapes to sell the VW look, besides the obvious blue. Depending on the joint involved (hopefully not pinned), the whole chest piece could potentially be replaced by an add-on kit.

Well I imagine those that didn't care for the Netflix version (or just couldn't find one) might feel differently.

Really wish Hasbro could have/would have retained the VW licensing on this version of Bumblebee.

It would've done wonders for that vehicle mode which IMO just looks bad.

To me, the more I see of this figure, the more it seem very similar to the Buzzworthy one.
    Bumblebee (G1)/toys - Transformers Wiki

It's very cartoonish, but that's one of the goals with SS86 (even if I find the line seems 50/50 with the WFC styling /more toy look).

I've never been much into BB, but Netflix did appeal enough for me to get it and quite glad I did as this one doesn't appeal to me at all, even Origins looks better for the robot mode... For the alt mode, the more I see it, the worse it looks and just doesn't even look right as a cartoonish "replication", every post that shows a frame next to it makes it more evident.

If someone agrees with me that this is very similar to the Netflix version, and they didn't like the Netflix version, then I actually think it would be kind of weird for them to want to buy this. But whatever makes this hypothetical person happy I guess.

Many that didn't like the Netflix version specifically didn't like that the rear of the vehicle needed to be removed for transformation, this version doesn't have that "problem"

It's only similar because they're both G1 Bumblebee. But are differences, like parts forming obviously but also the proportions of the robot mode and also the goldish color.

For me this is THE Best Modern 'Bee head barring the TR, which managed Child-like without ending up weirdly jowly like the Origins, and MP heads.
The Netflix is fine but the face sculpt reads as an older, mature 'Bee rather than the original eager little robot bro.
