It actually reminds me more of Transformers: Devastation Bumblebee than G1-Cartoon Bumblebee.

    What if...

We get a retooled Bumblebee as a VW Bug in an exclusive Target multipack?

We'd have to double-dip on that.

I think this is a pretty bad bumblebee in vehicle mode, but it's going to be such an amazing cliffjumper. And man they really can't get Bumblebee headsculpts right can they

He looks pretty accurate based on this picture, but I wonder if they will redo him with blue windows eventually. Anyways, as good as he looks, hard to swallow that he's the same price as that Prime.

This is not the first time Hasbro has done this.

I know we have all suppressed this memory... that's why I'm here to remind us:

Was actually gonna say, I get why ppl are divided on his looks cuz it is different but if you look at the g1 toy that's how his alt mode is and that look in turn is taken from the old penny racers. I personally like it but I suppose some of that could be nostalgia

Eh, I think I'm still good with my KBB Agent Hornet. Pretty sure it costs less than this new Bee too.

Everyone is so salty on this toy. It looks great and totally makes sense with the VW license issue why it had to have some discrepancies with the actual animation model. This is a great looking G1 Bee!

It looks nothing like a vw penny racer. Like I said earlier, it looks just like cliffjumper.

The G1 toy is absolutely the aesthetic I wish they went for. Not only is it animation accurate, but it's also aesthetical pleasing and palatable.

The 86 vehicle is just wrong :(

I think it has the aesthetic of the Penny Racer down, just not the VW. Also I suspect people might just be getting tired of Bumblebees, especially when each new one has something you have to "settle" for.

If they do retool this into a cliffjumper it wont be in ss86 it will probably be in another 5 pack with other autobots, kinda like this year\'s gen selects 5 pack. they don\'t do 2.0s in studio series, and theres alr a ss86 cliffjumper.

I'm wondering if the licensing is a budgetary thing. They got the VW blessing for ML BB, but this one is genericized enough to clear legal.

And I don't think car mode is awful. There's been worse. But IMO this accomplished a better robot mode at a smaller size and with less budget than the eyesore that is MP Bumblebee 2.0.

the botmode looks awful, the vehicle looks awful. Doesn't belong in the SS line.

That Cliffjumper released alongside a SS86 redeco of SS86 Kup though.
I think that's enough evidence to say that they can very much do 2.0s in Studio Series

I don't think it is. It's a budget issue imo.

My guess is that we will find TF One Prime and SS86 Bumblebee on shelves before the September preorder date rolls around. They want these in hands this summer.

    Ebay:
Evan explained that he's black-windowed because some of the parts in the window area ended up as PA (nylon) which isn't paintable, so it was a better look to just have all-black on the windows than to paint part of them blue and leave the PA portions black. In order to do him with blue windows, they'd either have to gate off the window PA parts from rest of the tooling which would be more expensive, or shoot the limb parts that are in PA as blue too. I doubt we're getting blue on this from Hasbro or even Takara, who has kinda given up on those premium paintjobs for main releases.

    BMac said July, IIRC.

This won’t be scarce, he’ll flood retailers and end up online once he’s no longer a preorder item.

I'm not reeeeeeally a fan of the sort of penny-racer thing, but, after going back and looking at online pics of the old cartoon, yeah, they pretty much nailed it. I like the bot mode, especially in that his feet aren't anywhere near the giant clodhoppers of the WM version. Still much prefer the literal MP-mini aspec of the WM version's car mode, but what sold me on this new one is the pristine yellow plastic. By Primus' feet, they better not futz that.
