With the “oops” reveal of Skipjack this morning, who we had prior knowledge of, the first official repaint of the mighty Studio Series Devastator is confirmed, and not even a day after his impressive combined form was properly shown for the first time. It’s no secret Hasbro likes to get two uses out of every mold, even with Studio Series, but the reveal of Skipjack makes me question to possibility of a full-on set of repaints of all of the Constructicons, as they themselves are such a tall order to begin with. Would they release them all as regular figures? Will we see repaints of all of them? What colors will they be? Is Skipjack just an exception?
We already know we are getting a repaint of Scavenger as Demolisher, but that won’t really change visual accuracy in a positive direction. The odds are petty good for most of the rest of them, though not all at once. Hasbro will want to give people who get on the Devastator combiner train in the second year another chance to complete the figure. the one needed more than any other is an Overload that eschews individual bot mode color accuracy for being accurate in Devastator mode. Or just a gun metal one if nothing else.
Overload in Demolishor's for a consistent torso. Scrapper, Scrapmetal, and Hightower in Rampage's colors for consistent limb colors; Skipjack going with original Dev and RRampage with the recolor. Long Haul in either Rampage's colors for the same reason, or Payload to reference an established character.
I could see us getting Payload from Longhaul and Demolishor from Scavenger but that’s probably it after Skipjack. If we still had movies regularly pulling in $1B+ Id say you could bet on seeing an SDCC boxset in G1 colors but I think those days are behind us.
Yeah, Demolishor and Payload make sense. I'm not sure what else they could do with the others unless their CGI models were re-used as random background characters elsewhere.
I don’t recall that being confirmed, the only confirmed one is Skipjack. I’d say a Demolisher repaint has the highest odds out of them all however, followed by a Payload repaint of Long Haul. After that, the odds are slim to none we’ll see any repaints for the others.
I'm gonna be honest anything aside from Demolishor and Payload isn't very likely at this point, anyway G1 colors would like like shit on this guy, he deserves his bayformers colored glossiness!
I'm fairly certain we'll get a repaint for Demolisher. I can't see us getting a Payload since in my opinion he's not that famous or relevant. As for a G1 version, it could be done but I dont think so unless it was like a limited exclusive set.
I wrote this in the News thread on Devy but...there's no way Hasbro's not gonna recolor everyone. I'd bet money on recolors in late 2020 and into 2021. Also from my post, here's what I'd like to see. I've excluded the two repaints that are obvious...the upcoming Skipjack and Payload out of Longhaul... Hers what I wanna see. A Quickmix colored Mixmaster. White Terex Demolisher. Scoop colored Scrapper. Armada Smokescreen colored Hightower. Takara Armada Hoist colored Scrapmetal. Longhaul as Payload obviously. Finally, a Landfill colored Overload.
I mean if we go down the list. Mixmaster - there were 2 other Repaints of him in the rotf line. 1 - was close to G1 kinda 2 - was a RPM figure and Orange and white. Neither seem super likely to ever be done again deco wise. Scavenger - A demolisher Repaint seems the most likely out of everything. Overload - was seen only in G1 and a comic only Purple color again not super likely. Rampage - had a third color deco in the movie or rather a drone did i think it was White and Blue but with Skipjack on the way theres no point of a third unless they go crazy. Longhaul - again G1 or Payload the latter would be the goto but as its ponted out its a really vague character that serves no point in SS Scrapper - G1 or a Red version that was made during the rotf line. The odd ones out are scrapmetal and Hightower which yeah G1 would be a stretch. To me Repaints arent something id really care to see outside of Demolisher
The only ones I believe that are going to be repainted are Long Haul into Payload and Scavenger into Demolishor. Mixmaster could be likely where instead of gray and white, it’ll likely have some sort of green to match one of the old concept arts, or a reference to the 2007 game. They could also take that chance to repaint Devastator’s face into an all gray or all silver color scheme for aesthetic purposes.
G1 colors is definitely the easy answer, but I feel like we could get a weathered deco box set as an SDCC exclusive. Something like battle damage and air brushing to look like sand. Maybe an add-on piece to look like the vortex grinder.
