So, odd topic. In the odd realm of possibilities and negativeness. How would you feel if Square Enix got their hold on Transformers? What kind of game would it be? Or better/worse yet, what if any other developer besides Highmoon, and Jagex had their hands in the dipping pot? Bethesda, Treyark? How would you feel in these situations, and what would your most idealic one be? Me? I think a Square Enix Transformers game would be really nifty. Would have a beautiful soundtrack. It wouldn't be Final Fantasy. The game itself would be beautiful as well, and ontop of everything, i'm sure Squinex would figure out some new game mechanic for it as well.
Ohh no... Optimus prime with some j-pop hair style! In all seriousness, I don't think Square Enix would do a very good job on a TF game.
I used to be a Square fan boy but their stuff lately has left a lot to be desired. So if they were to do a Transformers game it would either be a sucky RPG like 13 (in my opinion) or a mediocre action game at best. So I don't think Square would make a good game for them. My fantasy game would be for a Bethesda style game set on Cybertron with unprecedented levels of character visual and gameplay customization.
I'd like their production values. However their games have sucked for the last few years. Also any sort of TF JRPG would mean some BS turnbased combat (most likely) and given the whole quick actions transforming back and forth would just feel gimped if I have to wait for timers. As for story.... just no. If they farm it out they might make a good game but then its not really a square enix game Boarderlands + TF's would make me a happy guy
If Square-Enix somehow managed to snag the TF liscense they would probably be confused what to do with it and farm it out to one of their Eidos developers to do something with it. So it would end up with Crystal Dynamics after they finish Tomb Raider, whom would make some vaguely interesting action game thats best parts would likely be its heavy focus on Exploration (and possibly great story if they go to their "Soul Reaver" roots). If IO Interactive was given it, their Hitman/Kayne & Lynch background suggests a really interesting action game that isn't as mechanically sound as one would hope (though would be lauded for being creative in the amount of freedom the player is given). Eidos Montreal could make something super cool based on their short history making Deux Ex: Human Revolution (and whatever Thief 4 turns out to be). They could potentially rock something really cool. Even more interesting is if they take advantage of their 25% ownership in Rocksteady and get those dudes to make something other than a Batman game. I have no idea what they would do, but based on their history making the Arkham games it would probably have awesome combat.
You said 'Square Enix with TF' and I literally flinched so violently I think I pulled something. No, for the love of god, just no. Let us not speak of this. I'll go with the guys who said something Borderlands-y. I generally trust Bethesda not to make me cry tears of blood these days.
Absolutely not. Square ceased being "Square" years ago. They went from being top three to mostly irrelevant. They've accomplished almost nothing in the last decade while other companies have made the break throughs they used to. Bethesda wouldn't be too bad either. But honestly High Moon's games have been legitimately good. I'm sure a third entry will build on the success of the prior two. The biggest thing is that the Publisher didn't do a mid-release push at all and now High Moon is basically pretending that it doesn't exist. FoC sold okay... not as good as WFC as far as I know, but not bad (though PC barely sold at all via retail, it probably did well on Steam too). There should be more. But putting it in Squares hands would be a mess.
Not a fan of square Enix and I think it not their type of franchise. I think kojima would be good or rocksteady will be good to.
I can't imagine Bethesda doing a TF game, but an open world TF game with RPG-elements would be awesome.
well, square enix is doing well with tomb raider. i wouldn't doubt that their transformers may turn out to be a good game
A much as that would be beneficial, Skyrim was way to buggy for my liking, DLCs would be just a myth for PS3 users, maybe Rocksteady would be better, but it doesn't matter to me just as long they keep with the art and character style that HMS used, because that is the one I follow now as a fan...SUCK IT PRIME AND BAYVERSE!!!
I would love a Square Enix game. They could totally do an epic Transformers story and an RPG is much more suited for a complex story than an action game. And then get Roberts to help write the story and we have the best Transformers game ever!
Give the licence to From Software, Dark Souls is amazing. Which reminds me, I have Armoured Core V sitting on my shelf.
I was going to say AC-V has some really awesome controls just a shame as a game V was weaker then 4. Also graphically you can see they tried to hide the low res textures with bloom and gamma and its really a pain when your customising. Also the levels were all a bit meh bar the cities Now if you thought the fight with Trypticon was cool in WFC try fighting any of the bosses in AC 4. Just as big if not bigger and you can fly around and land on them while they run around a massive arena.
Considering they're in the process of screwing up Tomb Raider by doing the IP wrong at the core level I would be deeply worried/disappointed if they ever got there hands Transformers... Truth be told... You cannot beat passion for licensed IP work. Its the hard part of licensed IP work, you really have to know the IP to work with the IP's owners and work towards a common vision* it it will be a disaster. Relic, Rocksteady, Highmoon. They all get major props from me. I mean Highmoon saved the Dinobots... That's pure love for the IP as most developers would have just shrugged and moved on to other things.
