And yet the animation in Cybertron is still far better and smoother than Combiner Wars, so I don't see what point you're trying to make by saying Cybertron looks worse, because it objectively doesn't.

Gotta agree, but budged aside studios keep thinking this choppy style is a 'design choice'. It has nothing to do with budget. The render process at the end costs nothing but time.

Seems okay from the promos to me. It's probably just the opening.

But why the hell did they give Menasor autotune? Seems weird.

Not hating on it; just a tad confused.

The fact Windblade single-handedly defeats an entire Combiner is pure BS.

So is the character a Mary Sue now? I hate to use that word but this feels accurate. Like what the everloving duck was that??

Wish Hasbro would go back to Mainframe/Rainmaker for all their cartoon needs. Beast Wars is still the most adult Transformers series we have ever had. They should have been the first choice for Combiner Wars, but instead they went Super cheap with this Machinima crap. Looking forward to that Season 3 of RID after this crap.

Not necessarily. If they chose not to animate it fully e.g. didn't keyframe it properly, this choppy nonsense might not be fixable with rendering alone. Plus, you know, time is money, so technically the rendering process does cost money because the sooner they get it done, the sooner they can render other things.

And time is money. Frames per second absolutely is budget. This is well-documented on many CG animated dvd commentaries. Nobody thinks using 2 frames to try to show Windblade spinning is a style choice.

The only reason anyone ever considers a lower CG frame rate, other than budget, is if the 3D characters have to also interact with cel animation, and that doesn't seem to be the case here. And in 2D, a lower frame rate can work, because they can distort the individual drawings. They don't do that here. It's just choppy and ugly.

You know its fairly cheap to send something this simple off to a render farm. You have a point about the cell-based animation, but have you ever tried to render something? I've used Maya several times and rendering, although it takes time, can be sent off to a render farm for reasonably cheap.

Have you watched RID? Windblade has been a filthy Mary Sue for ages.

Please, don't confuse 'mary sue' for 'blandy miss blandy'. Although I like RID, Windblade is really under-utilised in the character department. As much of a Windblade fan I am, I was glad to see her go.

She's not a Mary Sue here, because she's not a goodie two-shoes who's in the moral right; she's a bloody psychopath,
murdering Menasor without a second's thought
. Moral flaws are still flaws, hence not mary sue.

In what way is she a Mary Sue in RID?

RID Windblade is this amazing character that shows up, is very powerful and good at everything and clearly meant to be superior. I can't be bothered going back to RID to analyse those episodes again, but seriously, she is a Mary Sue in almost EVERY way.

Tried to find out the exact definition of Mary Sue on TVtropes to counter your argument, but even that's saying there's no real definition.

I thought Mary Sues had to be protagonists, but clearly she's just a support character in RID. Plus they give her no development, so she can't be a Mary Sue if she has no personality to begin with.

(This is coming from a Windblade fan too, which makes it double insulting)

Oh God, that was HORRIBLE! The five-minute runtime doesn't do this series any favours, but they still managed to botch whatever was featured.

The animation is choppy as hell. This is the kind of show that looks great in screenshots, but hurts your eyes to watch it in motion. The voice-acting is equally horrid. I swear the director just picked whoever was standing closest to him at the time and said, "Okay, you voice Menasor and you voice Computron". The hell if it doesn't sound anything like the characters should.

The story is..... what? The introduction is non-existent. We immediately kick off with Menasor and Computron duking it out. Where did these characters come from? What was that device they travelled through? Where do these combiners fit in the series? What the hell is going on?! Of course, Windblade and Maxima (a redshirt) show up for no apparent reason, and somehow Windblade takes down Menasor all by herself!! Okay, this reallly devalues the power of combiners. If more are being built, why should I be afraid of them if one petite fembot can fell them in one blow?

This is an awful, awful episode. In fact, I don't even want to watch any more after seeing just five minutes of this crap. What a huge letdown.

She wasn't good at everything, though. People only thought she was, but Strongarm saw through that. Windblade was arrogant, and overconfident about her abilities, not to mention had no problem endangering humans. She was far from a Mary Sue.

incorrect. In this animation, Windblade is most definitely a "Mary Sue" :

    (Source: - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Sue )

Windblade's ease with dispatching Menasor is a perfect example.

Does Mary Sue apply to all flaws? Psychological flaws count too right? Am I the only one getting this?

To be very honest, he sounded like a school yard bully more than a threatening monstrosity.

    Cringeworthy voice-acting.

    Clunky animation.

But worst of all is the scripting. I can't work out if this took a 12-year-old two minutes to pen, or a team of jaded scriptwriters six months.
