This was a very good ep. Much better than the last one. Deadman is the star of the show and is used really effectively. We also see a lot of Super-Villains (some of which I cant Identify) Luthor, Tala, Grodd, Devil Ray, Bizarro, Psycho Pirate, Rampage, etc. The storyline is straight out of a JLA comic book story. A villain also dies at the hands of a hero...
"A villain also dies at the hands of a hero..." I see the word 'spoilers' in the title twice, wanna make with them?
Deadman shoots Devil Ray and kills him while possessing Batman. And the entire world gets transformed into apes... including the super-heroes. Luthor shoots Grodd at the end and takes control of the Secret Society.
Good episode.. Lot of good humor. Like Luthor with Bizzaro. "Bizzaro, you loathe me right." - Luthor "Bizzaro loathe Luthor. Bizzaro do anything for him..." - Bizzaro "Good.. i mean bad." - Luthor
Good ep. But the whole "Devil Ray" thing annoys the shit out of me. He's fucking "Black Manta" dammit.
Bizzaro is an alternate world Superman from the backwards universe. Up is down, down is up, black is white, white is black, good is bad, bad is good, etc.
Animated Bizarro follows the story John Byrne outlined for him in "The Man of Steel" - a failed clone created by Luthor. I really liked the handling of Deadman in this episode, though Grodd's ultimate plan seemed a little anti-climatic. Glad to see Luthor getting in on the act, though.
Bizarro! I'm Helping! Bizarro! Don't forget, Luthor has still got a hefty dose of Brainiac crawling around his mind. him taking control was bound to happen, but I look forward to seeing how he gets them all to help him once its obvious he'll sell them all short far worse than Grodd did. oh, and anyone notice that plot hole when Superman turned into a gorilla? Yeah, he's not a HUMAN, so Grodd's trick shouldn't have worked on him. At least they could've written in a little "this device will even affect Superman!" line in there somewhere. The destruction of the device to reverse its effects was kinda cheap too, but I guess the goal by this point was to show Grodd was really incompetant. but other than that, it was a pretty good episode. Frankly, I don't know where else they can go or do after the finale last season so I hope they at least try to build up to something even bigger.
Yeah I agree on the whole Devil Ray/Black Manta deal. Also considering there is a character called Devil Ray in the comic world who looks NOTHING at all like that. DC really should've came in and put their foot down on that. Cause of that, his death means nothing to me. The Ape story does sound familiar though and Superman did become one. (well I recall seeing a Superape anyway) Hmm man I wish they would hurry the hell up, stupid new CN shows, stolen idea from DC with that damn Dial H for Hero rip off Ben 10.
I laughed out loud, really loud, at the line, "I will turn the entire human race...INTO APES!" Hilarious stuff. At first, I was afraid that THIS was the best that the writers of the show could come up with, but near the end of the episode, Lex Luthor's actions proved me wrong, and my faith in the writing team was restored. And then I laughed again at Luthor's badassness. And on an aside, am I the only one that thinks some of the actors stopped trying? Kevin Conroy (Batman's actor) sounds almost nothing like he did back in "Batman: The Animated Series," and towards the beginning of the episode I thought a different actor was playing Lex. Mind you, I don't think Kevin or Clancy Brown's acting is "bad," it's just that it used to be so much better before, and now they sound very different, and with the case of Batman, it seems like the actor isn't trying very hard anymore.
I haven't seen the episode yet but I thought as a religous secondary hero deadman could't be used on DCAU like Spectre.
