I like Animated Arcee, but her wings are a bit goofy and they don't really do much to conceal her hands in car mode. So I chopped them up, glued on some other bits, and made them in to more of an actual spoiler that meets in the middle. See? No more peek-a-boo behind the wings. Also, they don't stick way the heck out into traffic any more. I'm not wild about how they look in robot mode, but I still prefer them to the wings, which are just too big and stick out too far. I also did some of the same paint tweaks as everybody else. Neck. Boots. Lipsstick. Eyeliner.
You used lego "vents" for the connection point! awesome! i was going to do something similiar, but just cut down the wing (and glue it back on) and use the same vertical piece that connects the spolier wing. i think that made sense.... Randy!
Thanks! Oh, it's not so hard. I cut a piece of paper into the right shape beforehand to make sure I was happy, then cut down the wings with an exacto knife. Then I put the *cough* custom built special tab-tron connectors (which are not at ALL standard grey lego grille tiles) on the wing-mounting-nubs, added a tiny dab of superglue to the wings, and slid them into place. If you are a sissy like me, you may want to have a 2nd arcee handy just in case you totally bugger up the operation. I thought about doing that, but the plastic on the wings proved really hard to cut with just an exacto. Plus I liked the way my test pieces looked "down low" as it were. The more right on top of her hands they are, the more effectively the hands are hidden. Hrmm. Maybe I need to sculpt those connector pieces down a bit so their origins are not so obvious...
I am definitely going to be doing that when I custom paint Arcee into a different character! Very nice.
Very awesome. Can i ask how you painted her mouth so accurately? I'm terrible with small details, but I'd like to give my TFA Arcee IDW's purple lipstick of doom.
I had to look at this 3 times before I realised what the "spoiler alert" meant. Anyhow very nice job. The best mods are the simple, small, easy to do ones that fix a blatant problem so completly. Nobody ever says "That's brilliant! It's so complicated!" This, my friend, is a win. If this is up for a vote, I say no. It's really not necassary. Like I said the simpler the better, IMHO.
You did it! You did it! That looks freaking awesome! I like how the whole thing sits flush to the figure, but also is super straight so it looks seemless in the alt mode. I noticed you used the shinier version of her rather than the matte. The touches on the bot mode really help it more as well to define her. Did you shave down this set of swords for the hands?
Yeh, the shiny version is the keeper. The matte one is for parts. This is one of the reasons I wanted the spare, btw. I wouldn't have had the stones to chop up the spoilers if I didn't have a backup, so thanks again! I took some pics showing the cut-lines and underside more clearly, will post um, eventually. Oh and yes, I did shave down the swords. I'm terrified of those thumbs breaking off! That's the OTHER reason I wanted the backup figure!
