Since no one has created a thread for this yet (according to my knowledge), I decided to. Discuss! Also, some info on Splatoon: Splatoon is a new Nintendo IP which offers a different and more lighthearted take on the shooter genre. Your character has two forms: a human, where you can shoot ink with your gun, and a squid, in which you can travel in your color ink to hide, maneuver quickly, climb walls, and refill your gun's ink. In 4v4 online mode Turf War, in which matches are three minutes long, the goal is to cover the most territory using your ink gun. While you can take out opponents, the path to victory is covering the terrain. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ea9-w8r1Xik"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ea9-w8r1Xik In Ranked Battles, an online option which will be available post-launch and unlockable once you have reached level 10 in Turf Wars, there are a couple other modes to play. The only revealed one so far is Splat Zones, another 4v4 mode in which players aim to control specific areas of the map. When starting Ranked Battles, your rank is C-, which can be raised to A+ with good performance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZehXrZV8II In online modes, the GamePad screen allows you to see what parts of the map are covered by your ink, and Super Jump to an ally's location. Also, you'll want to avoid enemy ink, as it can harm you. Two offline modes have been revealed: Octo Valley and Battle Dojo. Octo Valley is a single-player campaign mode where you fight past the evil Octarians to rescue Zapfish in each level. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loZfGvEfkYA In Battle Dojo, a 1v1 mode, Player 1 uses the GamePad screen and Player 2 uses the TV screen. The goal is to pop more balloons than your rival before the end of the match. Like the online modes, there are multiple maps to play on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmWMX7nw8q4 After playing levels and matches, you earn coins, which can be used to purchase clothing and weapons. Clothing affects your characters performance in various ways (clothing is simply for appearance online, however), and there multiple types of weapons to choose from. There's ink snipers, missile launchers, and even weapons that aren't guns, such as ink rollers. There are three Splatoon amiibos being released the same day the game is. Their function in the game is that they offer unique challenge rounds and exclusive clothing. Besides Ranked Battles, there will also be other DLC for Splatoon. Splatoon releases in North America on May 29th.
Also: And (potential Direct spoilers): Spoiler Splatoon Direct Contents Leaked? Delfino Plaza Stage and More!
Cool! EDIT: Also, the Direct is at 7 a.m. PT / 10 a.m. ET. And it can be watched tomorrow here: Splatoon Direct - 5.07.2015
I wou;d have preferred an official thread closer to launch so it doesn't die by the time the game is out. Also, provide more info on the game, bro! Don't worry, the source for that is a notorious troll.
I will provide more info. Notorious troll, eh? Oh well. The Nintendo Direct tomorrow will hopefully still be awesome! EDIT: Info added.
Looking foward to splatoon. Hope to ink a bunch of you online. Still.. sadly, how much you want to bet next year all the gaming sites will still whine that Nintendo doesn't do "New IPs."
Playing against fellow TFW2005 members sounds like it'll be fun. Yeah, the whining will still go on, but I don't mind, because while they do that I'll be enjoying the new Nintendo IP that supposedly doesn't exist.
I do too. It would make sense since it's a new IP. Nintendo doesn't usually release demos, but they did for Code Name S.T.E.A.M. (which was new).
I wouldn't mind getting a little taste of Splatoon in the form of a demo Looking forward to the direct in a little bit, seems like they must have a nice amount of reveals if their giving Splatoon it's own direct.
A demo is coming! ...Sort of. According to my understanding, it will only be playable on May 8th and 9th. EDIT: Times are: May 8 from 8:00 - 9:00 PM PT May 9 from 4:00 - 5:00 AM PT May 9 from Noon to 1 PM PT Which sucks, because I have a group event that runs, guess what, from 2 PM May 8th to late afternoon May 9th. WHY!!!!!????
good, they confirmed party matchmaking as an update. I was worried about that. I'll try the demo later
Wow this actually looks really creative and fun. Finally a shooter game that's colorful and unique in the ocean of gritty CoD games. Nintendo may just have a winning new IP on their hands here.
There are already people doing that no matter what, primarily because they aren't just asking for new IPs, they're asking for new IPs that cater to their tastes. Plus a small number of people seem to have disregarded Splatoon's existence over voice chat of all things. EDIT: I just got done reading through an IGN article's comments. I don't know why I keep doing that, I already know what's usually contained in them. Mostly consisting of really dumb statements. "This looks like it should be a $15 downloadable title on PSN or Xbox." I swear, IGN has some of the most annoying people posting there.
