I Watch Stuff - Spielberg Remaking 'Oldboy'--with WILL SMITH Searched and didn't find anything about it.So here ya go. Never saw the original myself.
Sigh. >_< What's next? They're gonna remake My Sassy Girl? Spielberg hasn't made anything good since Saving Private Ryan.
Well, grats if they do it right. I suspect it'll just be a collection of "omg kewl" scenes remade from the original, though. I have a huge love for the entire Vengeance Trilogy, so I'm always kind of bugged by the idea of only remaking one part of it.
seems like the whole vengeance plot events in oldboy would be kind of risque for american audiences. Still though, the original is pretty good. Hope they dont totally ruin the name.
I can see this being a totally different movie, only keeping the theme of a man slowly finding out why he was held in a prison for a long period of time. It could be entertaining if it trys to be its own thing. I liked the vengeance trilogy. My only problem with Oldboy was the over-the-top scene near the end where he goes on and on and cuts his tongue out. I know why that all took place and everything, but it was an extreme measure to jump to without the "bad guy" ever actually asking him to do that.
No in 5 more years he'll re-remake war of the worlds and it will be even more shitty than the one with tom cruise also shia ledouche will fill in tom cruise's role.
the remake bit doesnt bother me at all. its spielbergs name attached to it that's killing this from the get go. you sort of already expect all the risqué bits will be watered down now. Spielberg is synonymous with family entertainment. old boy is at the other end of the spectrum and considering the fucked up ness was a big part of the originals appeal, this news comes off as a resounding meh. in conclusion, fuck you Steven, stop hanging around with George already. while I'm at it, fuck you George. this is for Indy 4. fuck you in the ass.
But why? Oldboy is Oldboy. And it's new. It's not a concept like Star Trek that could have a new take with better visuals. Also it's famous for it's directing style and long cut fight scene.
Spielberg is synonymous with movies for everyone that feature some pretty disturbing imagery or themes. Like Close Encounters and E.T. with their creepy aliens. Saving Private Ryan? Munich? A.I.?
