Ok, I know I’m late on this but the Mysterio illusion/fight sequence was incredible! It was a perfect cinematic portrayal of his shtick. I may go to a second viewing just to see that part again. I’m tired of disgruntled Stark adversaries but thought it was a real cool touch that part of Beck’s team was Peter Billingsley’s character from the first Iron Man.
Spider-Man: Far From Home Secretly Proves Tony Stark Learned Nothing "It's almost like there's some unseen commentary here that suggests that the world is doomed to live in a cycle of potential doom as long as good men keep trying their best to protect it. As long as heroes exist to save the world, or SHIELD or pretty much anything, they can be corrupted or their actions can unwittingly corrupt others and inspire them to villainy. So maybe Thanos WAS right and the only way to save everyone is to wipe it all clean and start again?"
The box office tally is now $970 million. Just $30 million more and we don’t have to worry about those rumors anymore.
Heh, if Sony were smart - which we know they're not - they would have put the threshold at $1.5 Billion because Feige & Marvel are well aware that even on a bad day, they could now put out anything and it'll hit $1 Billion almost by default. $1 Billion has become the new $500 Million.
It's scarily accurate. I've never really been cynical about Marvel's success because I generally love(d) the MCU, but when things like Black Panther and Captain Marvel, even Iron Man 3 in hindsight, all shot past the billion dollar mark, I knew we were/are in store for a LOT more mediocre shit going forward - as evidenced here with this terrible sequel about to do it next. And they'll use the Michael Bay 'logic of success' where they claim this or that is the best thing ever based solely off box office income - not actual reviews.
Well, I think those two movies had a certain reason that made them so successful. One that I won’t name. But, as for Iron Man 3. I’d say it’s success is mostly drawn from the fact that it followed The Avengers, which was super popular and the first movie really of it’s kind at the time, and starred the most popular MCU character. The “This is best thing ever because money” mentality is a media/people thing, not so much a Marvel thing.
I agree for the most part, but I really do think it is a Marvel thing now too. I can't detail why, so I'll just say that I really do think easy money has indeed changed things where some quality & standards are concerned. I feel the MCU has had far more almost indisputably weaker movies in recent years than earlier on, and believe me when I say it greatly saddens me. I looooove (most of) these movies, but even my own fandom and admitted bias won't stop me from objectively noting the shitty installments. Which sucks... because I wish it did. You're dead on about IM3, though. On its own, it would have brought in far less, especially after the first waves of people went to see it and let others know how awful it was. But after The Avengers, of course, who wouldn't run out to see more Iron Man?? Haha I know I did.
You know, if I can say something. A (objectively) bad movie or two is bound to happen at some point. A streak of perfection can’t go on forever. I think you understand this, and I understand your concern that you think because those two movies were two of highest grossing ones, that it will start a trend. I think though that thats too pessimistic. Some of them will be great, others, objectively not so much. I thought Ant-Man and The Wasp was awful, I felt like Black Panther was a little unoriginal, and I found Captain Marvel to be straight up boring. I’m not soo gloomy on it though.
Well so much for going to see the movie today. We bought tickets, left at 11:50 to go to our theater for a 12:45 showing, a theater that is 15 minutes away. While on the highway a dumbass semi driver drove his truck into a rail guard causing an accident. The highway was a parking lot for 45 minutes. suffice to say, we didn't make it to our movie. -_-
Yeah, all good points... and I respect your position. For clarification sake, I absolutely think they had some glaring missteps before Panther & Marvel too. It's just that those two became SO over hyped and bogged down by... well... you know. And I fear the distracting social commentaries mixed with BO money they made has seriously skewed judgement in way of what passes for legitimate quality. That's all.
That’s understandable. The MCU does suffer from quite a bit of bias. And some make sure to point that out. BUT that bias has some damn good reasoning for existing at all.
