Glad they changed the name but its not Dragstrip I don't mind Over-run sounds cool
Ya know... If it's stickers and not full on box reprints I think this is hasbro's way of changing it while still allowing those of us who aren't offended to have the name. I see what you did there Hasbro. My hat's off to you.
Spastic.. Over-run... Either way, it's still a nice mold, so I might have to grab one!!
Or, they already had printed a bunch of Spastic boxes and they slapped on some stickers rather than throw those boxes away.
Bingo. The most cost effective solution.
"inflames the hearts of the fandom"... That's so stupid. More like inflamed the hearts of people who know nothing about Transformers...
Bottom line is, a person can turn EVERYTHING into something offensive... Everyone that's been hit by a car should now complain that "Over-Run" is now offensive, disrespectful, and should now be changed!
That's oversimplifying the problem. It is one of most offensive words in the UK.
Didn't we already lose Slag because it's offensive in the UK? Now Spastic(don't actually care about that one). What's the next TF name that we'll lose because it offends someone?
We didn't lose Spastic because we never had him to begin with. Also, there wouldn't be a problem if Hasbro actually researched names before committing to them. 5 minutes on Wikipedia would have saved them a lot of trouble.
He will "ALWAYS" be SPASTIC in my book. (Overrun is a damned jet minicon)
Don't worry SPASTIC, I don't hate ya *brofist*
There was no Wikipedia in the eighties.
I still wonder what will offend someone next.
There was when they chose Spastic and the dismissive "I wonder what will offend someone next" attitude is offensive in and of itself.
The difference is that Slag along with Breakdown, Dragstrip and all the other names people keep saying are just as offensive is that while (with a fair bit off effort in most cases) an offensive term can be found they each have a more relevant and obvious robotic, mechanical, automobile or scifi factor. Slags loss is just stupid if someone doesn't want to be call a slag, they just need to not dress like a whore and sleeping around (and probably avoiding having 2 or 3 children before they are 16 would help). You can't stop having cerebal palsy to stop someone calling you a spastic.
Good Lord do we have to go into this again? Don't find Spastic offensive? Take the stickers off. Find the word offensive? Leave them on. Can it be any simpler than that?
Interestingly, going by the number of people in this thread that are going to remove any stickers they see, and if that ends up the norm, the sets with the stickers left intact will likely become rarer and worth (though probably only by a tiny amount) more.
I'm getting one and taking the stickers off
SO glad they didn't reprint the boxes.
To get the full "experience" of this thread, set yourself on fire, clock yourself in the head with a large wrench repeatedly, and run around in a circle screaming while you read.
the name is better because over-run basiclly means he well, overruns his enemies, spastic would mean he has always seizures and that he has a disability, which wouldnt be good if you are a commander of an combiner team. I am so glad that they cancelled the name, whoever maked that thing happen is my Hero, who was it ?? Somebody on that site ?? The name spastic would have ruined the stunticons for evah for me, would be the same calling a combaticon ****** and both don't deserve such an name. Ok, Over-runn may isnt the best name, would have prefered Hyperdrive , but still its better than a name which describes a disability.
Probably for the best that the UK won't be getting him anyway then.
Separate names with a comma.
