Space: the imagination station is to start re-airing vintage ROBOTECH episodes as of Monday, January 7th "The popular anime series Robotech will air Monday to Friday at 5 p.m. & 5:30 p.m. ET / 2 p.m. & 2:30 p.m. PT, beginning January 7, 2008!" http://www.spacecast.com/shows_4980.aspx
It's already programed into my PVR now it's the wait I'll have to endure during work (finishing at midnight if lucky)
awesome for canadians! i'd get excited but i already own all of robotech! lol nor am i canadian. but oh well, awesome news though.
Meh. Pretty cool, wouldn't mind getting a chance to watch it here in the US. Still, after watching Macross the "Macross Saga" has lost a lot of it's luster. Never saw the rest, either original or Robotech versions, so those would be cool to see either way. *hugs Macross and Macross Plus box sets*
Same here. I have the Protoculture DVD megaset. Watched them as a kid, life-changing experience for me anyway. If you haven't seen them yet this is a good way.
They really need to put that back in the vault and leave it there. It has long outlived its original purpose, and now only keeps alive a very bad precedent.
I have the entire series too, but it's nice to see it on TV again. It'd be like if they started re-airing G1 episodes.
Canadian TV it either rocks or it confuses the heck out of me. I guess that is because the Canadian stuff we get here is almost instantly reformatted and renamed to fit American minds or something. (MuchMusic will always be better than MTV.) Anyway, I'd love to see Robotech again. thanks Canada for making me wish I was a canuck- again.
true... but i'd still watch robotech on tv too, probably far far more often then i'd watch the ones i own. heck i'd watch it everyday on tv vs. once a year on dvd.
I've never actually seen robotech before. Last night was my very first time. Boy, that animation is crappy, eh?
Crappy? By today's standards, I suppose so. But you kind of have to remember that it was made (Macross at least) even before G1.
For a 25 year old Anime it was pretty well animated. After watching Macross years ago, while I can't watch Robotech anymore, I still very much apprishate the series. My brother was a big fan durring its origional run, but being only 7 at the time I really didn't completely grasp it. It wasn't until I saw it a couple of years later on re-runs that I truely began to apprishate its brilliance. I was right at that age where I still kinda enjoyed cartoons, but they were becoming a bit too simplistic for me and Robotech provided just what I needed. I enjoyed Masters, but by the time I got to New Generation I kind of lost interest since it had deviated so far from what I enjoyed in the Macross saga. Of course I didn't know at the time why exactly this was. Anyway, great series, and one that ended up having a pretty heavy influence on Anime in North America.
There were scenes with one frame of animation per second! That was crappy thirty years ago, that was crappy ninety years ago.
The animation in Macross was hit or miss, depending on which animation studio was handling that specific scene. When it was good, it was good. When it was bad, it was awful.
hehe, I should have been a little more specific. Inconsistant yes, but still pretty good for what was around at the time. Anyway, a great story can make up for inconsistant animation.
Yes, it can. Unfortunately, IMO it can't make up for inconsistent animation, bad dubbing, and a butchered mish-mash edit job from hell.
If you want to see impressive animation for back then or any era for that matter, watch the Macross movie: Do You Remember Love. That's some good animation.
