Super simple work here. I took some rolled up corkboard, spray painted it flat black. Then dipped a funky sponge into blue paints and dotted “clouds” to form a nebula. Then dipped a thick brush in white paint and then used my finger to flick the paint from the brush onto the board to create stars. I’ve done this many times before, and TBH I’ve done better then this before, but it’s a cheap and easy way to paint space.

Now, once it dries I’ll be able to use these as backdrops for my shelves to make it look like the characters are in deep space.

EDIT: I really need some lights. :/

It’s so heartwarming! I bet you could use a similar technique to make wrapping paper for presents!

That looks great. Now I kinda want to get some of that blackest black paint or black 2.0 or whatever is called and give this a try myself. Would make a nice backdrop in my legends display or a good photo tent backdrop. Maybe even some UV reactive paint for the nebulae.

Great recipe you got there! The art works so well to capture those cel animation space backdrops from 80/90's anime, and even fits well for TF figures.
