Clyde dozing off in class back in 'The Coon' was what made me think he was Mysterion. But at least we now have an explanation as to why Kenny keeps coming back from the dead, which negates my grumbling somewhat.
I've been enjoying these last two episodes, and I think if they're linking the Cthulu cult to Kenny's immortality, it will be genius.
I figured Mysterion was either Clyde or Kenny. Last night's episode left me pleasantly surprised. I wasn't expecting it to be that great.
The promo for next weeks episode says it is the conclusion. I'm interesting in finding out how the cult works into Kenny's power. They basically came out and said it does since his parents were arrested 10 years ago and Kenny is 9. I also thought Clyde was Mysterion until Coon and Friends. After that is was down to Kenny or Kyle. I thought Kyle was more likely with The Human Kite being Kenny, as like Stan we saw him next after Kenny got the Coon and Friends Alert. I kind of hoping Butters/Professor Chaos teams up with Chtulhu before the end of this.
Well they still know how to screw with our heads. As well as creating one of the lamest super heroes ever.
I'm satisfied with the conclusion. Spoiler Having MBC be the one with real super-powers that ended up saving the day was unexpected, ridiculous and therefore hilarious. It was worth it just to hear Cartman say "Seriously? F**king Mint Berry f**king Crunch?" Also showing Kenny get literally reborn every time he dies was a surprise.
The thing is, it's not like we don't already know about that last point you raise. We've seen it happen in a previous episode. The 'unexpected savior' was a bit too much of a deus ex machina, and the way he tied things up was rushed in the extreme. Spoiler We're left not knowing what happened to the Cult of Cthulu, to British Petroleum and to Captain Hindsight. And Kenny himself gets no proper closure.
This episode just dissappointed me in how rushed the last part of it was, I mean, come on, your first two episodes were good, why not end the third one proper? BB28
The thing that bothered me about Kenny being literally reborn after death was, in the 2 parter where Cartman was trying to find out who his dad was back in season 1 or 2, we see Kenny come back to life by simply just reappearing from thin air. And then there was another episode where Kenny dies on a ride in Cartman Land and they try to close the place down for being unsafe and Cartman argues; "But Kenny dies all the time!" yet in this 3 parter they say no one remembers it happening.
The movie couldn't of been made if no one knew he died. Could be that once his powers were full activated by Cthulu rising everyone forgot the past.
People don't remember/do remember because of The Unicron Singularity. Or a Wizard. I was fine with the episode until the end. Not the sudden plot turn, but just how quickly and brush stroked it was resolved. Then the further info on Kenny also was disapointing, as mentioned, I expected it to be a "He just appears in bed" phenomenon instead.
30 seconds into this Kenny is shown to just simply reappear into existence: Cartman's Mom is Still a Dirty Slut (Season 2, Episode 2) - Full Episode Player - South Park Studios
Yes! And a giant evil pan-dimensional Dark Lord monster named Kthulhu is supposed to be defeated by something far more realistic than deus ex machina. I can see where people would be disappointed by the quick wrap-up at the end, but it's not like South Park is known for being on some high tier of quality storytelling. The show is a vehicle for jokes, social commentary and just general silliness. I've never really taken it seriously enough to pay attention to or care at all about plot holes, deus ex machina, continuity, rushed endings, etc. I saw this whole trilogy as a commentary on the silliness of the superhero genre in general, and its ending seemed the appropriate turd in the face to said genre.
