Sophomore, a second effort. FansToys return to the 3rd Party Transformers scene after the universal success that was FT-03 Quakewave, a toy so revered that it is almost unanimously accepted as the Masterpiece Shockwave and an essential addition to any collection, official or otherwise. After delays and a long build-up, FansToys have released their answer to Masterpiece Dinobots, the FT-04 Scoria from the Iron Dibots series – 3rd Party MP Dinobot Slag to you and me. Just like Quakewave, “Scoria” has become an entity – almost a category – unto itself, for reasons positive and otherwise.

Cheers man, I hope people's varying opinions of Scoria won't affect Soar's popularity. I suspect it won't and I hope FT are able to circumvent possible issues with FT-05 through feedback from Scoria.

Blue or red version, that is the question ;)

Excellent read! Really well written and funny pics :lol

Honestly that would've easily convinced me to switch had I been a Has/Tak only buyer. Unfortunately I missed Quakewave so I'm losing my mind now after reading your description of him.

It helped me. Your quakewave article was the final review that got me off my refusal to buy 3rd party. I now have two of each of the FT quakewave and scoria, over the last 12 months have sold off a large CHUG collection and prime collection, all in order to focus on the masterpiece styled figures, so I can relate to this article. For the first time since I was a kid its not just that they look cool, but I have fun transformering them. Its an amazing time to be a g1 driven adult collector. Awesome scoria article, the score is truely 2 to 0.

I never get tired of reading your articles Maz. I enjoyed this one a lot. ESP since you had to go with both sides of the fence ( the good , and the not so good ). Awesome read.

Thank you so much for the praise, guys. Scoria still has pride of place and is the only toy I see every single day as it's right next to me on my desk at home. Every single time I see it I am wowed by its stature and appearance. I actually think I like him more than Quakewave now.

Great read mate, I was one of the lucky ones with a near perfect figure and I honestly believe there will be no other masterpiece slag in the future that will ever replace it. Scoria is by far my favourite transformers figure to date. Sadly I missed the quakewave boat and hope to get one eventually.

    Another great read.

Soar is a make or break for me. I'm well aware that mileage varies a great deal on Scoria, but mine has issues that I can barely believe come from the same stable as Quakewave.

    So........that difficult third album awaits.

There is apparently another run of Quakewave planned in the new year with a darker purple scheme. Don't miss it!

Just can't fault you for the pain you've suffered at the hands of what could have been the best figure of the year for you, it must be very hard to see past issues that we simply didn't expect the figure to have. Here's hoping Soar utterly nails it.

Really? Where did you hear that? I held out on Quakewave for the longest time. I'm not sure I can resist another release...especially if the purple is darker.

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but isn't a lighter purple than the one on Quakewave more cartoon accurate than a darker purple which was present in the toy...just inquiring?

Anyways, I'm still not interested in Quakewave but after owning and holding Scoria in my hands I definitely understand what all what the hoopla Quakey was about.
