If you had been queuing outside Virgin Megastore in Oxford street, waiting for your PS3 for 24 hours or so, Sony offered you a little thanks. They gave every single person who'd been waiting (i believe for 12 hours or more) a free TV. Not just any TV though.... a 42" Sony Bravia HDTV worth £2500 ($4000). What a fantastic gesture on behalf of Sony! Certainly beats Wii Sports into the dirt for a 'freebie'. Granted it's only around 100 TVs or so, and not with every single console... but imagine being one of those 100 or so people... Worth their while d'you think? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6482789.stm
Yeah but 1 day or $4000 tv? Hard decision... Not many of us make $4000 in one day so I would say its a pretty nice deal.
Yep. You had to waiting in line, at that store, and be willing and able to buy a PS3 in the first place.
Yeah, that is a cool gesture on their part. I give them credit for that, and it's good advertising as well.
Sheezus, that would've made my day for sure. "Ahhh, here you go, have a TV." Especially in light of those North American retailers who went the opposite way, and required that you BUY a TV to purchase a PS3.
microsoft crashed the party http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6485483.stm it also suggests how slow european sales were and i will vouch for that, between my shop and GAME (uk game shop) we had 37 ps3's to sell to people who hadn't preordered one and we sold 6, ofcourse we had the usual 50 calls a day asking us if we had wiis
we had 26, 14 were preordered and picked up, and 12 were left for sale and we sold none, don't know how many preordered consoles GAME had.
