Or just do it like S3&K. Beat the game and just restart the clear file to farm a single special ring for the ones you missed.

At least till you learn the other Rings are.

Unsure if you can do that as if you fuck up the game doesn't let you do it again. Also apprently if you complete it then the won't let yoiu go in that ring again in the same level, believe it wa smentioned in one of the recent offcial livesteam.

Will check after I've finished the normal play through though.

Dude that's how I got the Emeralds and all of Blue Sphere done. Beat the game then just farm for the rest.

excellent game. hope we see more of these in the near future.

also is crazy that this is the best sonic on a handheld (if you're playing on switch) since playing genesis carts on nomad.

boggles the mind how sega has shat on sonic since the 16bit days.

I beat it after a week and I loved it. If you took out nostalgia, it would probably be the best Sonic game. I think everyone should play this and show Sega that this is what people want.

Now, I did have a couple issues that in no way ruined the game but did surprise me. First, the levels are really long and I died more time the time limit running out than anything else. Do we really need to keep the archaic 10 minute limit? Second, they have a biplane part just like Sonic 2, and unfortunately it's pretty glitchy and I died by falling off the plane about 4 or 5 times. Third and probably the worst is the Chaos Emerald bonus stages. The controls are bad, which are based off of Sonic CDs bonus levels only this time it's more of a race where you need to react fast, and to me it just doesn't work in the context of being fun. I had earned 3 emeralds after my first play through and the 4th level is just so bad that I feel like I'm not doing something right, but I am.

Sorry to talk more about he negatives, but it IS a great game. The main game plays great, the visuals and music are fantastic and it has a good length for a Sonic game.

So, the PC version unlocked around noon, yesterday.

I played Green Hill Zone and the beginning of Chemical Plant Zone, so I can't really give it a full assessment just yet. That said, what I've seen thus far is incredible.
Yes, they're 16 bit 1993 graphics, but there's something about them that IS HD 1080p level. They don't look like a rom through an emulator or a composite connection through a LED/LCD display that looks like a crappy upgrade of a CRT. They look like freshly rendered designs wrapped in a 16 skin. It works so, so well.

The sound is incredible. I played it on my laptop, through just the built in speakers and it felt like it was surrounding you. Can't wait to hear it through my 5.1 DTS-HD/Dolby Digital+ HT.

The feel and performance of the game is surprising. I game using my laptop, with an AMD APU (CPU and GPU all in one) and it's more than capable of playing older games, but at low to medium settings, depending on what resolution you use, whether or not it's windowed or fullscreened, etc. I was able to play this, without hesitation or issues, at 1080p @60hz. Smooth as silk.

Incredible work for what's basically a $20.00 digital download, but one that was finely crafted into a REAL game, not one of those cheesy mobile platform runner games that made Sonic famous as of late. This is a real, legit, old school Sonic game. Just based on what I've seen so far, I'm happy as a clam.

Guys! Finally managed to get this game and so far I am loving it. Wow, I am rusty as hell when it comes to Sonic games. ^^' I do have one question and one question only, dont wanna get a guide or anything: how do I get the Chaos Emeralds? Because so far the bonus levels are Blue Spheres/Red Spheres ones and I only get...some sort of medal thingies. :S
    Thanks! :D

Starting playing it on Switch, it's very good for a retro take of Sonic.

It's also now sold over a million copies, it's their best selling sonic gane in years
Sonic Mania Has Sold Over a Million Copies - Bleeding Cool

Hopefully they learn from this, I'd love to see a new 2D platformer version like this but with more of a cuphead level of animation. Get rid of the sprites and make it look like a playable cartoon.

Not taking away from it's success or anything, but even the shittiest multiplatform Sonic games have sold over a million and it's not hard for it to be the biggest selling Sonic Game in years when it was the first one since about 2013 to come out on all four. Obviously it's irrefutable proof that there's as much market for new 2D Sonic games as there is for the 3D ones, but don't expect Sega to suddenly stop making the latter and start throwing lots of money at the former.
