Split, this poster is either DRASTICALLY new to the hobby or is trying to pretend Botcon Exclusives didn't exist.

You mean the repaints people keep trying to resell on ebay all the time? Not new. Just don't see the point, really.

Scalper's gonna scalp. Nothing says you have to pay that. That Strafe repaint of Cyclonus was going for almost $200 in the BINs, and I got it for $30.

It's for sure going to be available online. It's not for sure going to lower prices, but hopefully.

You don't see the point in owning something rare and valuable?

I take it some of the online stores picked some up, then.

Rarity and Value seem to be arbitrary in this niche market. On one hand, you have, say, Badcube's now Rare 3P masterpieces, which SURE, i'd own.
On the other you have a repainted Titans Return Bumblebee. Which, in terms of rarity is as rare as fucking SAND in a desert at this point.

You'd be better off repainting one yourself, at least you'd be practicing a craft

The production run on this blue Bumblebee, however, is comparable to the production run on that 3rd party Brawn. There's probably even fewer. And (in my opinion, of course) being an official Transformer will help it hold its value over the long term, whereas the value of the BadCube Brawn will plummet when an official MP Brawn is released.

So, it all boils down to scarcity, rather than production value / design / material quality?

Might be difficult to get them, similar to how the BAPE Convoy figures worked. I don't think they can go through their regular channels for this.

It's not up to TakaraTomy to make more, but they are going to pass the word along that there is desire for such.

Absolutely. Look at values on late-G1 Japanese exclusive figures like Dinoking. Small articulation-less bricks, yet a gift set sold on eBay in September for $2,200. They're objectively terrible toys, but there's so few of them out there that demand far outstrips supply.

Any collectible market is like this. Comic books, trading cards, the fewer of a thing there is out there, the more valuable it is because so many more people want it than can have it.

Interesting. I was guessing a production run of maybe 1000 units, but I wonder if it was even smaller. Surely not.

    Dear Hasbro,

Do a run of a straight repaint of Roadburn as Freeway.

    Thank you,

    The fans.

Yeah but for the G1s i understand, they're vintage and nearly 40years old. That alone would up the value quite a tad. This is about TR Bee, man.

At the very least, Studio Trigger's director is really fond of Transformers (cmiiw), he add a lot of easter egg on SSSS Gridman's background/trinket on characters.

SSSS Gridman was just the most recent (at least, I dunno if they snuck anything into Promare), and one of their most blatant attempts at it, because practically every non-mecha character design element was a Transformers reference. But the crew manages to slip in Transformers references in pretty much every anime they work on.

Back when they were with Studio Gainax, they slipped a couple of blink-and-you'll-miss-it Transformers references into Gurren Lagann. There's a Decepticon sigil-shaped Ganmen in the background in one scene, and the Daiyakkaiser wields Optimus Prime's ion rifle when it's piloted by Yoko. Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt had a whole episode segment homaging Transformers. And then after forming Studio Trigger, Little Witch Academia of all things still managed to include at least two Transformers references. In one scene, Constanze (who specializes in magitek) enchants a piece of ore and it turns into a small robot, complete with an ersatz Transforming noise. And then in another episode, in Soucie's dream world, one of Soucie's briefly-mentioned alternate personalities is "robot Soucie", who changes her face into something resembling the movie Autobots', again with that ersatz Transforming noise.
