I was playing conquest as an Autobot and there was this Leader on the 'Con side and sometimes he would just lay on the ground like in Escalation or co-op Campaign when you run out of health and need someone to revive you.

I guess it could be a cheat but I don't really see the point of it, I didn't see anyone revive him when he was down

    Back up cells or something.

it's basically a prone mode after getting shotdown. I could see this getting used in a team of like minded players.

From one of the many interviews from the the developers, they said they made this ability(and many more) from watching others use it in Battlefield series, MW(2), and of course, Call of Duty series.

    Reserve Power Cells.

I loved using it before I reset for Prime, when I was downed I'd kill myself with the Magma launcher just so they other guy didn't get the kill. If I'm going to die it's going to be on my terms, I'm such a dick. XD

Actually, doesn't the other guy get credit anyway?

If I take any sort of damage and happen to fall to my death, the other guy gets credit.

Nope, whoever finishes you off does, if you finish yourself off nobody gets it.
I've stolen many kills on leaders that other players have downed.

Falling to your death is different, the last person to damage you gets the kill.
If you take your own life with a weapon it just shows your name and that you killed yourself.
Nobody gets any points for the kill.
