A while back in an interview, Michael Bay said that "something bad has happened to America"... and that got me thinking. Now, with new photos released of destroyed streets, and reports of extras acting as refugees from an alien invasion has prompted me to post my theory.

I think that the Decepticons have invaded and taken over America. Like, complete alien invasion. They've attacked cities, military bases and various human settlements, reducing them to rubble. I'm kind of thinking that the "refugees" will be kind of "War of the Worlds" styled, with giant alien robots killing them all, and destroying all their cities. We know that the Decepticons are indeed targeting humans this time, so why not?
Obviously, this would happen later in the film, not the beginning, but I think it's a cool idea. I'd love to see a "War of the Worlds" type thing going on, but with Transformers instead of tripods.

I think Soundwave has infiltrated our missile defense system, or possibly Russias. They are filming in Moscow.

yeah, I think I agree with you. I don't think they'll be exterminating humans like they did in War of the Worlds(its still a movie appealing to kids). But I definitely get the feeling that the decepticons have somehow taken over.

I'm also betting that Nest is cut off from real millitary support in this one. Bay said it was a "black hawk down" kind of situation for them. So this might be interesting aswell. It might mean they'll be more focus on the autobots as the heros...

i would like that, soundwave being useful at least one more time, before he comes down to earth and becomes useless (seriously, there was no point for him to come down to earth, he was most at use in space)

A black hawk down situation implies that a bunch of them die, and they're trapped in a city environment with everybody shooting at them and every attempt to rescue them failing repeatedly.....

It could be that Soundwave disables the majority of US electronics, or there's a successful occupation of Europe by Decepticon invasion. We've seen them reach out to Asia, and other places in the comics (which aren't official cannon i realize) so it could make sense that Chicago is one of the last strongholds of the US military.

But we all know that the mighty US army is completely unstoppable, against any foe and will win the day.

I like the feel so far, but what I'm starting to fear is that the Decepticons will be large in number, but they will be 90% generic protoform types like the ones we saw at the end of ROTF.

nah, I think he was refering to how close quartersthe battle was going to be with a small number of "friendlies" and little support from the outside. I don't think he was refering to the death toll...

"The scene shot Monday between Michigan and Wabash focused on ''a number of base jumpers who are part of Josh Duhamel's unit. The heroes in this movie have very few people coming to help them this time. I like to think of it as the 'Black Hawk Down' version of 'Transformers' -- it's much more intimate in terms of what's happening."

I think you might be right on what they were talking about with the Blackhawk Down feel to the battle.

Air support has really been taking a lot of the tension out of the fights. You've got a good fight going between Scorpie and the unit Lennox is leading until air power shows up and the fight is over.

The big battle in Egypt just felt like a let down since it was air power that won the day instead of the Autobots and NEST.

But a situation where the good guys can't just call in an air strike or call in a navel strike to win the day has a lot more tension to it. The good guys actually having to dig in and actually fight it out rather than waiting for the all powerful film ending strike from afar is just so much better stuff. Just think of all the really good war movies, action movies, and sci fi movies where it came down to the grit of the heroes on the ground instead of the wait for an all powerful weapon to end the fight.

agreed. I'm hoping this is the direction they take with the final act of the movie. It makes for a much better climax when the heroes overcome the odds rather than holding out till the calvary comes. Actually, even holding out till the calvary comes can be climatic as long as its done right. For Tf3, I hope the heroes or the calvary endsup being the autobots rather than the humans. It just gives them more meaning than just really cool background characters.

I think this might actually be a good idea for what this movie is about! Also, I would like to bring up my suggestion again that "the Wreckers" are neither Autobots nor Decepticons, but rather a small group of humans who employ guerilla-tactics (with weapons attached to sport-cars) to fight the Decepticons. They are therefore allies of the N.E.S.T. soldiers during the battle. IIRC, there was also a scene posted a while ago when some N.E.S.T. soldiers escaped from a big explosion. They were aided by a group of soldiers who weren't wearing the professional gear from the other soldiers. It might be up on Youtube somewhere still..

Yeah, it ties into the 'Autobots go home' too, could this mean the Autobots actually leave Earth and then make a 'Charge of the Light Brigade' return? (If you know what I mean :( ).

Sarcasm is a lot more effective when you're affirming something that isn't true.

Yeah I fear this will be the case as well. It's the first thing I'm feeling about this movie that's a downer.

That would be pretty great, All Hail Megatron would make a pretty good movie, as you'd have to cut out alot of the filler crap that was in there. The Cons crushing and taking over would be great.
