Youtube quality stinks. I was looking at the G1 DVD thread here: G1 Series DVD Comparison ...and it seems like it would almost be better to have the image quality of the Rhino sets with the audio from the complete series DVDs. It occurs to me that we're overdue for a "Star Wars: Despecialized"-esque remastering of the OG TF series. Assuming Hasbro doesn't feel like sinking the money in (although I'd love to be proven wrong!), when is our rabid fanbase going to take up the mantle? Now is the era of the fan-edit. I'd love to see what we could do. Also, if we could get the TF: Reanimated crew in there to produce "season 2.5" that would be icing on the imaginary and prohibitively-expensive cake!
I’ve been hoping for this for years. A nice blu ray remastered set with all 4 seasons on it would be awesome.
I love how the bonus features on Rhino’s G1 season 1 show how they went in and fixed all these little things. But then the actual episodes don’t contain any of the fixes. WTF, guys?! But yes, I’d like to see a proper remaster. And before anyone says “but the errors are part of the charm,” - sure. I get that. But we’ve had plenty of releases already with all that charm intact.
Fixed errors or not, I just want Transformers (G1 Sunbow, Japanese G1, Beast Wars II, Beast Wars Neo, EVERYTHING) on blu ray at 1080.
It would cost a fortune to fix all that. Heck, fixing Rumble's colors alone would be prohibitively expensive, since he almost never appeared in the correct colors.
If they were to remaster the whole show then fixing all those animation errors alone would cost Hasbro a lot of money.
At this point, I'd be happy with another release of G1 and the Japanese series, maybe with a digital version code. And this time, please include "Zone" and the "Scramble City" special.
And when they do a translation, please keep it true to the original, and don’t add in any terms or phrasing from IDW or whatever. No “phase sixers” or anything like that.
Yeah, I don't want anything in there from IDW or any other new sources. Though, I would prefer US names for things that apply like "Autobots", "Optimus Prime", etc. I'm also fine with them toning down any curse words and cutting out blatant sexism, agism, ablism, etc. But I know some people will flip if it's not 100% exact translation.
4K transfers of the original film masters exist (with errors) from when the Rhino DVDs were made. This was mentioned by Shout!Factory when they outlined how they reintroduced the fixes from the broadcast master tapes. The barriers at this point are: Hasbro and their licensees don't want to release these without the errors corrected, or they'd have done so already. They don't think cleaning and upscaling (or recreating) the animation fixes will make a good return on what it would cost (or again, they'd have done it). The fandom doesn't have access to the 4K film scans. We would have to de-interlace and upscale all 24 minutes of all 98 episodes, and that's... prohibitive. And that's without even getting into the Japanese shows.
Maybe some enterprising young Hasbro data library tech could "accidentally misplace" the 4k transfers...
Not to mention that the DVD releases actually contain errors that didn’t even actually air because they used the unfinished/unaired masters to make the dvd sets
He was colored right in one scene of the movie, at least. And Frenzy was also colored like Rumble in the same shot ...
I guess I stand corrected but you do realize the Irony here right?.....your useing an established animation error as evidence the character was colored correctly at least once
It's a case where Sunbow accidentally got it right, like the rare appearance of Prime's truck mode stripe.
Shout actually applied the "American" names/terms on the JP releases. But to the OP, that would be an instant buy! Even a regular BD upscale release and not 4k.
Nothing wrong with that. I’m talking more like instead of calling Sixshot a “ninja consultant,” they called him a “phase sixer,” a term that wouldn’t be invented for a few decades after the show had ended.
I'm more of a subtitle purist. Translate the literal names like Laster, Braver etc. It's like calling Kup to Cha, Brawn to Gong. If it's the English track then call Optimus Prime, Optimus Prime. If the JP track then call him Convoy. Shout also did a big goof up by putting "The Headmasters" logo on both Masterforce and Victory.
