GREAT SCOTT! A "Real" Working Prototype Hoverboard. (Think Hovercraft)

Inspired by Marty McFly’s floating skateboard, Jim Pitts has managed to complete the world’s first working hoverboard.
The would-be Doc Brown has been flooded with enquiries from potential investors after posting pictures of teenagers really hovering off the ground on his illuminated device. So, so cool.

‘It can actually lift over 300 lbs, and I believe that the manufactured version might be able to lift a little bit more,’ Pitts added.

    Introducing the HoverSkater:

It's not a hoverboard if it's still touching the ground.

vid didn't work and the pictures didn't look like they were off the ground. though the first real hoverboards probably wouldn't be far off the ground anyways like air hockey pucks. but keep going dude! I'm sure you'll make it happen eventually! :D

The board flies around wildly making flatulent noises.

Looking at it, it should really be called a 'Hovercraft' board, not a hoverboard.

From what I can see the wheels are just for when it's not on (or out of batteries) and it has a hovercraft skirt underneath, which means you should be able to go on snow, ice and water! It still has to remain in contact with the floor, so no Marty McFly changing direction in mid air shenanigans.

Even before I came into the thread I knew I was going to be disappointed.

I'm Sorry to disapoint. I can't see the videos at my work. And since this is just a proof of concept prototype to show off for potential investors, don't loose hope just yet.

( Hopes Bill Gates is a BTTF Fan and will donate start-up capital)

It's probably already invented. But then the question arises "what happens when some kid breaks their neck?" So it'll never see production.

It's a hovercraft, not an anti-gravity device. Throwing money at it isn't going to make it turn into a completely different type of tech.

All hope is definitely lost on this one.

Well, getting closer I guess. And the liquid nitrogen would keep your feet cold on a hot summer day.

The Lexus Hoverboard is real and people are actually riding it?*badly?Video? | RocketNews24

Another article about it. Seeing it in action is quite impressive, especially when it zooms over the water, but the fact that it needs an entire custom built park with magnetic rails running along and underneath it everywhere still makes the implementation of a hoverboard impractical for the time being. Still, a step in the right direction. Who knows, maybe in the next 50-100 years someone will come up with truly autonomous hover tech not just for boards, but for carts/gurneys (Han Solo in carbonite y'all!), cars, etc.
