I like the new look. I'd be really excited for the leader class toy if I hadn't already seen it.:p

They are from the licensing style guide, simplified versions for merchandise for the younger audience.

Supposed to be confidential and in limited distribution, someone is going his butt kicked…

Awesome! It'd be neat if Robot Replicas made a return for the AOE toyline. I'm worried these designs won't work well as transforming toys.

Yep this is the sort of stuff that gets distributed so manufactures can think about what to put on merhandise - you know the file folders, t-shirts pencil cases that sort of stuff that uses (sometimes) a simpler version of the character model.

These look like just the sort of thing useful to someone in that business... there's proably a whole bunch of official Images to follow (in the near future) from style sheets and the like - I really liked the dramatic renders they had for the 2007 characters (and some of the later ones too) I keep hoping more of that shows up as they were super super useful guides for customisers and artists.

It's a lot easier to find a whole lot of nice CGI image of Ratchet or Starscream than it is for Dino or Hatchet though.

Giving Grimlock fangs like that makes him look more like a dog than a dinosaur.

    Assuming it is Grimlock.

Prime looks cool... but man, that's a lot of blue, and where the hell are all the truck parts? Those things had 6 wheels last time I checked, where did they go...

The cleanliness and simplification of the renders speaks more to timetables and printing concerns than simplifying them for kids. All the darkness and grunge mapping needed to get something to look real on film will make a printed image look very muddy, very fast. I get access to licensing style guides through my job all the time, and I can confirm that everything about these looks legit.

These materials need to get out to licensing partners way ahead of time so that they can get product ready to correspond with the movie's release, so often they're unfinalized models that are retouched to look finished and polished. Generally they make every effort have designs as finalized as possible for the style guide, but sometimes there's changes made before they make it to film/show/whatever. This is why there was a lot of licensed product on shelves for the 2007 movie that had Megatron's original head design that was changed due to fan outrage, the style guide had already been developed and distributed at that point. Same goes for animated Blackarachnia's earlier animation model that made it into press kits and other printed materials before the final was tweaked.

I'm sure there's a reason we don't have full scans of all the pages of the guide, sometimes they put an identifier in the margins of particularly sensitive projects. I'm sure whoever leaked this doesn't want the backlash for violating their NDA.

look at how massive his chest is. I'm sure the front wheels are under all that armor of which a lot of that armor will be the massive cab hood. And the back wheels took into the back of his legs. Again covered by armor. 2 of the wheels you can see under the armor plates behind the heel/ankle of the feet.
