correct me if this shouldn't be here, i think it's too big for the SOC thread VOLTES V the only voltes v figure on the (semi) readily available market, the soul of chogokin gx-31 voltes v. my interest in voltes v was rekindled when my dad and i were talking in the car and it was brought up, turns out he watched the show in the 70s when he was a kid and i watched it in the 90s when i was a kid voltes v is comprised of 5 vehicles, the volt crewzer, volt bomber, volt panzer, volt frigate, and volt lander. see a pattern in the names? the volt crewzer is the little red ship that makes up the head of voltes v. it has 3 landing gears that fold out and 2 crew cutters that clip onto the wings. there are little white "missiles" that slide out if you point the nose down. i forgot to take a picture of the cockpit open, but it's nothing special, just a little red person molded in to represent kenichi (steve) the volt bomber is the abstract machine that forms the arms of voltes v. it has 5 sets of landing gear, 4 have to be attached and 1 is under the cockpit. you can see that the paint on the cockpit is messed up, i scratched some of the red off and tried to fix it, didn't work out too well and, depending on your definition of worse, made it worse that the scratch, but no matter. the red fins are made of soft plastic so that it can fold away easily for volting in paint the volt panzer is the tank that creates the torso of voltes v. it's very boxy but that's what it's supposed to be. the treads are rubber and roll quite nice, and the claws are movable. there is a little red tab that folds out of the cockpit, i guess to help pull it out when volting out the volt frigate turns into the legs of voltes v. it's the largest of the vehicles, and is obviously a set of legs. it has 3 landing gears that fold out, the rear 2 are interesting in that they stow away for volting in by rotating and collapsing into the leg the final vehicle is the volt lander, which separates to convert into voltes v's feet. the wheels have hydraulics on them and roll well. the front of both halves can rotate to reveal drills shift around a few parts on each.. and you have voltes v! now the hands are tiny, but we'll talk about that in a second the first gimmick voltes v has is the voltes bazooka, which is revealed by flipping down his right hand and pulling out a little barrel. nothing too impressive but it's there the next is the tenkuu ken, which is folded up in his chest. simply pull it out, unfold, and replace the sword with the dark red chest cover. it looks very flimsy and the small hands can't hold it, but like the voltes bazooka, at least it's there you may have noticed that voltes v always seems to be staring slightly up, that's because the magnet joint that connects the volt crewzer to the volt bomber isn't strong enough to keep it firmly in place, but it does the job well enough voltes v comes with 3 sets of hands; 1 closed, 1 open to hold weapons, and 1 with fingers fully extended and the palm showing. the hands are attached by plugging in gray pads with ball joints and plugging the hands into those another, much more impressive tenkuu ken is included, the only downside is that it's a bit too heavy for 1 hand to hold sometimes, but after a bit of fiddling around you can get voltes v to hold it right the next weapons are the gattling missiles, simply replace either arm's gray pad and pop this one in next is the chain knuckle, a flail/mace weapon that is installed similarly to the gattling missiles next are the choudenji strings. they are supposed to be voltes v's "belt", and to mimic that the belt piece is removable next are the choudenji goma, red and silver tops the choudenji goma can attach to the choudenji strings so that voltes v can whip them at enemies also included is the mechanical eagle, a mysterious mechanical eagle (duh) piloted by general dange, a comrade of dr. gou (the father of 3 of the pilots), to help voltes v when it was in trouble and later install an electromagnetic generator (or something) so that voltes v could use the choudenji ball attack infinitely without running out of power, iirc. the generator thing can clip onto the mechanical eagle and volt in to the back of voltes v. you can also leave the generator in the compartment in the back of the volt panzer, but i find that rather useless electromagnetic generator thing clipped onto the eagle the compartment volted in with voltes v the generator in the compartment the final accessory in this magnificent set is a stand for the excess parts when they're not in use. it doesn't really hold the choudenji strings, crew cutters, and the front 2 pieces of the volt bomber's landing gear well, but other than that it's nice. it's also molded to look like big falcon, the base of the voltes team. too bad it's not in white, the one included with the retooled "respect for volt-in-box" is the correct color but i'm not fond of the godaikin look of that version overall, i love this figure. even with the minor shortcomings such as scraping paint (partially my fault, but the way that the vehicles volt in makes it practically inevitable) and a semi-mediocre stand, this is a great set. 9.5/10 some of my voltes v stuff, a hat and flexible toy (i think it was from a fast food promo somewhare, anyone care to help me as to which store it was?) from almost 10 years ago when i still lived in the pinas. i also have a mug, toy tenkuu ken, and board game
Cool, I love Voltes V! I really hope that this SOC gets a discount.... A very big discount. So I take it that you've seen the Filipino dub over of the series? Since you called Kenichi "Steve" in parenthesizes.
i think what i watched when i was under 5 was the filipino dub, it's been almost 10 years so i forgot but i know the dub names; steve, mark (i think?), big bert, little jon, jamie. my dad got his bootleg of the whole series in japanese with english subs off ebay so i'm gonna finish the series since i moved to america after they aired the episode where jamie gets brainwashed by a ring or something
Very nice. I remember watching Voltes V when I was a child as well. Been playing the Super Robot Wars series games too, where he is one of my main characters (so far), along with Dancouga.
i still haven't open mine yet, even though it is not the Respect The Volt version. Need a time to open it, to free them from the evil polystyrene box
I skipped the original release of this but I nabbed the Respect version when it came out. Awesome toy all around. Tank mode is what really makes it for me.
I know this thing is going to tempt me in a month or two's time. It's sorta Dynamo's (Daimos to people who've seen the original anime) daddy, or at least an ancestor.
Combattler V ---> Voltes V ---> Daimos Also base from my rough observation, Voltes V has quite a huge fan base in Philippine, even bigger than Optimus Prime himself.
my favorite super robot ever (you gotta love all of 'em from that era tho)!! I picked up both SOC versions but still love my Godaikin version the best. And yes, I'm filipino of course..hahahahaha
