I keep watching the scenes where it shows Optimus with wounds in his chest and everything and not once did I see the Matrix that was a big deal in the previous two movies. So what happened to it?

 

Maybe he hid it somewhere?

 

Well it wasn't a tangible thing the whole time so it could have just been inside him or the thing bonded into his body on a molecular level.

 

He still has it however it may.not play a role in the future moovies

 

It's hidden away in the Plot Box - it's where all the plot points from previous movies go when they're no longer relevant. It's also where Maggie and Glenn from TF1 are, where all the Pillars still on Earth went, and where everything about the Fallen is... Actually, that's enough to make a movie on it's own.

 

It's also where the other half of Cybertron is...

 

I think this is as good an answer as can be given.

The true underlying threat of the Transformers Universe Isn't the decepticons or the creators....ITS THE PLOT BOX. Transformers 5: Plots of Deception. CONFIRMED!!!

 

There wasn't a single situation where it would have been useful, so why would it have ever appeared in AOE? Certainly not to bring back Ratchet or the other dead Autobots, they were melted away.
