Was alerted to this by a friend of mine, who saw the news via /co/.

Would never have contemplated this - but wow. One of the greatest Beast Wars eps out there is 10 years old.

    Thoughts?

I hope we get to see something as good within the next 10 years.

No, Sari learning her lesson about being responsible with a magic key and forced Blackarachnia drama does not count.

Well. Objectively speaking, something as good as Code of Hero probably won't happen until a few seasons into TF:A, because any cataclysmic event will be rather empty if it happens during season 1.

Although I do think that Lockdown's episode was certainly the best episode since Code of Hero. Was it as good? Erm...uh...jury's out on that one, I guess. But I do think "Thrill of the Hunt" was the first episode since Code of Hero that made me scream, "We need to watch this again. NOW."

That (COH) was a great ep though. I wish I owned the DVD so I could watch it now.

Yep. My list of favorite TF series moments:

Prime vs Megatron on Sherman Dam
Entire first half of TFTM, and Unicron's transformation
    Code of Hero
    Ravage's transformation (Beast Wars)

Each of those moments was, respectively, the culmination of some truly awesome buildup beforehand. I'd also like to add that Dinobot's second death, in BW's final episode, was in many ways just as noble and tragic as his first death. For some strange reason, I get more emotional thinking about Dinobot 2's death. Kinda like Darth Vader's death in a way.

Code of Hero is one of the few programs I have ever seen where I cared enough about the character and their sacrifice to actually make me feel really sad about their death. I'm not just talking about Transformers but TV as a whole. There are not many half hours that are as well written or built up as this one.

It'll be a long time before it is ever equaled. I expect that if a "best ever episodes" disc were released around the time of the 30th anniversary that this would be the headline act.

CoH = awesome. My friend got a Dinobot tattoo just because of that episode. IMO, no other episode in TF history ever has gotten anywhere near that kind of emotional response.

My buddy and I worked in retail (I still do) back in the day when BW was on, and we'd both usually catch the newest BW epsiode before coming in.

After COH we were both stunned, and eager to discuss, but all that was topped by the sight of a clearly-morose little child following his parents through the store clutching Dinobot ever so tightly to his chest.

Poor kid. At least we got a trip to the movies out of the death of Prime etc. ;)

I didn't like that episode, because it was the last episode with Dinobot! :cry  At least he got his memory back in the end of the show, but then kind of died again. Unless his indestrcutable spark kept him alive.

I really felt for Vector Prime in TF: Cybertron when he died getting everyone back to their own dimension. Richard did another wonderful voice acting job. It's just too bad the scene comes out contrived in the script writing compared to COH. Dinobot really had no other choice. Vector Prime's death felt like it had to be done just to make the plot more-angst filled.

The best new scene is recent times is in "Balance" of TF:C where Rodimus Prime, Ultra Magnus, Jazz, and Optimus Prime decide where the keys and ships are going to go!! Way to go with the G1 nods!
