So... it's ok to film red now?

Remember back in TF1 when people were upset that Prime was blue... and the official reason was because red doesn't read well on film.

Now we have a red Ferrari and a red Jeep.

So... new developements in film stock and processing?

Or, since this is being shot in 3D for viewing in polarized 3D glasses the red would be offset enough to read better on film.

Or the whole red color on film excuse was full of crap to begin with.

I know there used to be problems with VHS tapes reproducing the colour red. It didn't seem to preserve much contrast and would bleed a lot into the surrounding image. Maybe that's what he was thinking of when he said it.

I don't care. That big ass truck in all red would have looked dumb as hell. I like the flames, and whatever his reason was, I'm glad it was made.

Not to mention that it's possible effects will be added to the vehicles via CGI. Ferrari may not have wanted him to alter the car, and the red jeep is a custom, so I doubt they wanted to pay to have a duplicate built and painted.

So if a vehicle has a standard paint job it's "dumb as hell"?

    What?

Yes. That huge truck in all red would be boring to look at. The flames make him look more interesting and standout. Every other Autobot had something going for him... Bee is a bright yellow concept Camaro, Jazz was a cool sports car, Ironhide was a tough as truck, Ratchet was green Humvee emergency vehicle, and Prime would have been this big ass red truck. Nothing special about him.

Which one looks cooler to a 5 year old? Most kids (NOT ALL) but most kids would go with the one with flames because 'it looks cool.'

Maybe Red isn't a big deal like it was 5 years ago.

I don't care, personally. I like Optimus Prime with flames on him, it's unique, and it just plain looks cool. I'm glad now that we've got the Ferrari and Rollbar in TF3, because those vehicles look great.
As Moy said, maybe it's easier to film red now than it was 5 years ago.

And that would've made it a great disguise. I don't think anything draws more attention to a truck than custom flames.

I think a truck without garish "look at me!" accouterments would attract more attention than the pimped out ride Prime went with.

Remember: a technology year is six months so in five years I bet they have better cameras that don't have to worry about the red anymore.

Maybe. But custom trucks are more the norm than the exception now. Usually when you see plain ones, they're owned by a company. A lot of truckers that own their rigs pimp em out.

Personally I think Bay was correct in what he stated... years ago. He probably then realized that ILM could touch up any issues. I hope they use more vehicles for Cons this time so they don't have to spend as much time rendering full vehicle models for some Cons.

If I remember the whole red debate I think it was about Ironhide not Prime.

Someone had asked why Ironhide couldn't be a red pickup truck and there was an excuse about how they couldn't film red. I think there might have even been one about if they made Ironhide red then people would get him confused with Prime.

Now though red robots and red alt modes are all just fine for some odd reason.

    Yes.

Funny how Bay couldn't film red, but JJ Abrams could. Twice.

Don't get me wrong- I like Bay and his movies more than many a kool-aid drinking fanboi... but I just appreciate a bit more straightforwardness.
