I know everyone is talking about DotM, but I was recently re-watching the first movie and I noticed a huge mistake the Decepticons made!

Ok so the Decepticons were looking for Sam's glasses to find the Allspark. Sam had these glasses on eBay, and that's how they find him (Frenzy sees his username). However, Sam also states that the glasses had 0 bids.

So, I find myself wondering, if there were no bids, and the Decepticons could access his account on eBay, why didn't they just bid on the glasses and buy them? get them delivered right to their base!

 

They have no money. Also, it's more evil to steal sh*t and kill people.

Oh, and their buyer rating is really poor. Seriously, no body likes selling them stuff. I suppose that comes with, you know, eating babies and just being generally evil.

For those saying they don't have money... they hacked into Air Force One. I think they could handle hacking into some credit card company and getting some credit to use.

 

Well, they're Decepticons; they don't give two damns about Earthen currency, they just wanted the glasses.

 

They probably don't have a mailing address.

What I'd want to know is how they knew the glasses had a message from Megatron on them. Taking a picture of them would just make them look like they have chips or cracks on the lenses. How did they recognize them as Cybertronian?

Maybe they won at the last moment and scheduled a local pickup, but because BB was chasing him, he forgot the meetup time and Barricade got pissed.

 

As far as they knew Sam could be a scammer. It could even be a fake pair of glasses!

 

For that matter, he was trying to sell them at his school. Why didn't they dispatch a pretender in the first place to follow him around?

 

Buy the glasses? Why the hell would they? They're Decepticons. They take what they want, not bid on it.

 

Swindle had an account, actually. But it got suspended for shill bidding and the Cons couldn't be arsed to make another.

Draven's response answers the question perfectly. The Decepticons don't respect human society enough to engage in human activities - they only blend in because they want to avoid the human military. They're like wolves in a way. If they see a prey animal that is weaker than them, and they happen to be hungry, that prey animal is going to die. However, if they encounter something they can't take down, they back down and avoid the fight.

You can't suggest normal, reasonable options to the Bayverse Decepticons because they are not normal, rational people. They are a collection of power-hungry maniacs. If anything, Starscream's the most normal of them.
