So, after getting a knockoff TM2 Megatron not to long ago, I decided I'd take a chance on getting a REAL 3rd Party Transformer.

To that end, I picked up a Sonicron on eBay for a modest $20. Now, I know that Sonicron is perhaps not the BEST 3P figure ever, but after doing some research on him, I decided to take a chance.

And honestly? I don't regret the decision at all, I really like Sonicron. He doesn't really fill the "Classics Soundwave" void I was hoping he'd fill, but I like him even on his own terms.

First off, I should say that I went into Sonicron with adjusted expectations. I was well aware of his really, really poor QC issues. So I approached him as more of a project, rather than just a figure. I knew I'd have to do ALOT of joint thickening, trimming, and screw-tightening. And I did.

And now that he's no longer a floppy mess? I think he's great, there's alot of really cool things I like about him. The missile rack, the buttons on his crotch, his rounded head, and especially his alt-mode. He was totally worth the 20 bones I threw at him.

So, what was your first 3rd Party figure? And for bonus points, what 3rd Party figure did you do the most customization/fixing to?

    It's a terrible figure.

Get something from Fansproject, MMC, or Maketoys and then let's talk.

First full figure? I'm embarrassed to admit it was Assaulter. I've bought a lot of kits and add on's prior to him, but he is the first fully 3rd party built fig.

    And I love him.

Didn't have to do much. Loosen a few screws, and I might buy some Reprolabels Autobot insignias for him.

Now I have bought two FP Superion add on's, and I have to say Energon and RotF Superion were projects even with the FP kit.

Next up is the crossfire figures to finish up Bruticus.

My first third party figure was Warbot Defender. It was bittersweet cause he was cool at first but then he turned into a rag doll and I became disappointed.

Rager was my first full figure.
Though, I've picked up a few different add-ons or Prime trailers...

Your going to be amazed at how outdated Superion will feel like when you get Bruticus in hand.

Yeah. I've been stalking the Colossus for a while and despite some good offers from folks he'd always end up just out of reach financially. The reissue has finally put him within grasp.

But I have read about every review out there for him and looked at every video and gallery. He looks amazing and I am excited.

After those Crossfire figures, I'm likely holding out for the Maketoys Computron. I must have Jetfire's science team. For science!

Honestly I think several 3P figures have a bum rap among fans. I enjoy my Sonicron and my Grand Patriot. They have no real flaws, and both do exactly what they set out to do.

My first 3P figure was PE Scouting Force X. It's a pretty amazing set. full of detail and articulation in such a small scale.

As far as the 3P that required most work? MMC Knight Morpher Cyclops. Had to replace the entire right arm elbow joint.

Approaching Sonicron as a project to fix was the proper perspective for that particular figure. I like the figure too, but like you, I had to do some fixing of the figure's flaws to get him where he should have been out of package. Since I paid BBTS sale price for him, I didn't feel ripped off at all. Point being, out of all the 3rd party figures I've bought over the last couple years, the QC on him was probably the worst, but was much easier to overlook because of the price and that it could be fixed for the most part.

My first 3P was the Unicron.com Beast Machines Accessory Set. IIRC my first full figure was Defender.

The most work done to a 3P item was the iGear Arc Set. I had to wash it and then glue it together. It wasn't a lot of work but I don't mod my figures, I just display then and so far I've been lucky.

My first third party item was FP's City Commander, full figure was Defender. Great firsts if I do say so. (Though there weren't many before these products.)

My first third party figure were FP Munitioner and Explorer. My worst one was supermetalalloy Wheelie, not a bad looking figure but just was too big for my collection so I sold him

I think first full figures for me were some wst's. Shockwave and Blaster were both great other than their crap joints.

I had bought upgrades before them, but it took awhile for me to pick up a full figure due to me going headfirst into figuarts and SICs when I started back collecting. I've since sold most of my figuarts (somehow lost interest after people stopped using the rider kick appreciation thread, plus I like SICs more anyway) and have picked up full size items like steelcore and such.

Mine were Fansproject's Thundershred and Stormbomb. Their quality of construction, articulation, and design blew me away. Up until that point I only collected MPsn but since then I've purchased/traded for igear Arcee, most of their minibots, and Warbot Defender... love every one of them and don't see signs of stopping.

My 1st KO/3rd party figure? That would be Madblender/Mixmaster from TFC’s Hercules set. I still have him in the box, & I haven’t played with him. I bought a few KO Alternators after that.

3rd party figures that I have to work on the most? Fans Project Bruticus. My Swindle had a messed up trunk hinge, & I received it broken in the package. I did in contact with FP about the defect, & they did respond to my emails… but never resolved the issue. Which is why I might not buy the new release.

first figures were munitioner and explorer, didnt have to do any adjustments/fixing/customizing with them because they were flawless.

Only other ones I own are Yellow Giant, and the only change I did with that was the replacement parts that shipped with set c.

everything has been pretty much perfect.

My first one was TFcon's Powered Commander, if memory serves.

And man, what a gateway drug it was.
