So... How often do you actually TRANSFORM your Transformers?

    Hi all,

Just a thought on my behalf... I have a decent sized collection of bots by now, around thirty different ones, mostly CHUG but some G1 and movie, too...

Whenever I get a new TF I always start by transforming it once to robot mode, or if it is packaged in robot mode, to alt mode and back. Then I put it on the shelf in a cool pose by the others and it kinda... sits there. For me, the robot mode is the important one and the one I want to have displayed, and to me its a great satisfaction just knowing it CAN transform... Especially when a guest comes over and looks at a certain toy in disbelief and asks "can it really transform?" and I get to show it it gives me a great sense of satisfaction, but for most of the time my TF:s are simply display pieces, to the degree that I sometimes wonder if the intricate engineering in the toys has been wasted on me?

Think about a toy like ROTF Leader Class Prime. It is not like kids are able to transform it, at least not so that it can be a satisfactory part of playing, and even us grown-ups who owns it probably don´t transform it a lot... And watching this review, transforming the admittedly awesome looking Intimidator just seem... painstalking!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_PcfVkjzeQ

In cases like this, there is of course the challenge factor involved and the sense of satisfaction from completing a transformation (again, ROTF Prime), but it´s not something I´d like to to often.

Now there are some less complex TF toys that I have used like Rubix cubes, i.e. like 3D puzzles, I´ve transformed them back and forth while thinking about other stuff, just to stimulate my creativity and relax, but what I mostly do is just look at my TF´s on the shelf and bask in their awesomeness!

...but I sometimes can´t help thinking if I might as well be happy going Revoltech, so to speak, given that they had more to choose from. Or Gundam, given that they had a roster of engaging characters. Except I wouldn´t ;)

Regardless, what´s your take on this, y´all? What does the transformation gimmick mean to you? How often do you actually transform your Transformers?

It depends on the figure, really. I leave my masterpieces alone most of the time because I want them to stay as pristine as possible, but I fiddle with my mass-release ones quite a bit. I look at their transformation as part of them, and if they have a satisfying and creative transformation, it helps me enjoy the figure.

I make it a point to transform at least one figure per day.

If it's out and on the coffee table, then all the time. (Right now it's Flip 'n Change Grimlock, Smash 'n Change Optimus Prime and Armada Cyclonus with Destruction team).

If it's in my Cyberverse box, then fairly often.

If they're in a toy box then not so often, but these get cycled in and out of the coffee table.

If it's in my display, then not often. They stand there looking pretty.

If it's in storage, then they're probably changed the least... until I get them out for the coffee table that is.

I work from home so I get to transformer random figures about 2 or 3 a day (nothing too complicated).

Depends on the figure really. I mess with my legends quite a bit. Wish I could transform Metroplex more often, but the table he's on isn't long enough for his alt modes. Almost never transform my 3rd part stuff for some reason, but I pose them a lot. I also find myself transforming masterpiece Sideswipe alot, yet I don't touch the Fairlady brothers.....

G1 originals, never (unless I have to move again).

    G1 reissues, meh never either.

3rd party (only ones I really buy now) maybe twice, prob not again once I take a pic and put them away

My habits have changed over the past couple of years.

When I only had a few, and some were posed over my desk or on open shelves, I'd occasionally pick one up and tinker with it.

Once I started using closed display cases, the tinkering reduced considerably, as they were considered "permanent" displays, and only very few got touched.

Now I have quite a large display cabinet, I've been spending a few weeks getting it sorted out. With 400+ toys in it, I don't want to disturb it too much for fear of knocking down a whole army and having to reset it, so I generally transform a couple of times when they're new, but then put them on display and don't touch them again until I want to change the display.

Only collect masterpiece. So I either transform it once from alt mode to robot mode, vice versa.

Transformed only once for mainline figures when out of box. Then left in robot mode on displays like forever. But once in a blue moon I will pick one figure and transform to vehicle and then back to bot and left in its original place. I will transform my cyberverse/legion figures sometimes.

Not nearly enough unfortunately :(  I recently rearranged my collection display and I dedicated a couple of shelfs to "fiddle-formers." Instead of arranging them nicely in poses and on display, my newly acquired figures are, for lack of a better term, thrown onto these shelves so I'm encouraged to mess with them more.

I enjoy discovering the engineering of these toys and like I said I don't do it nearly enough as I should.

Not nearly enough. The only ones I regularly fiddle with are the Legends figures, because I have the full set of them on my desk at work.

Only when I feel like transforming a certain figure, which isn't very often (once or twice a week).

I transform my Transformers constantly. I rarely go a day without picking up a chosen robot and turning it into a vehicle or turning a vehicle into a robot. I will transform a Transformer several times a day as well, usually while being on a discussion board. I have noticed that I do it most often with Transformers with obvious vehicle parts that are integrated well on their robot mode. An example of one is Deluxe Hoist. I tend to keep my transforming in the Deluxe size class the most often.

I find that I'm fiddling more with my Masterpieces compared to my CHUGs. As most MP fans keep saying over and over, they have brilliant engineering, which makes them really fun to transform!

My least transformed ones are my BT/Alts and HAs. They stay in alt mode 90% of the time looking pretty.

Me too. I bring my TFs to work with me, and then take one home, everyday. I keep track of when I bring them in on a spreadsheet. I also use this spreadsheet to determine who to transform each day.

At most, I will transform five a day, but on some days, I transform ALL of them into vehicle mode to take inventory.

whenever i can. G1s i tend to take out for pics pretty often, so they get transformed during that. Others get transformed whenever I feel like it, MPs and G1s get the most though, the rest, once in a while

I would like to see what the hype on these Masterpiece figures is all about. The reasons why I haven't bit is the things are so expensive it's not funny and my little mainline toys might end up looking lame. Soundwave has pushed me quite a bit, I want to see how that cassette player turns into that screen accurate robot.
I am certain that I would transform them constantly.

Not often, though of course it depends on the figure. I only collect MPs now so the only figs I have now are MP-08 through 19. I've transformed Grimlock the most, without a doubt. Fun and easy with no fear of breakage. Maybe three times a month. The MP-11 Seeker mold, maybe once or twice a month. The Lambo mold, maybe four or five times total. The Soundwave mold, just once. I've transformed Laserbeak/Buzzsaw a handful of times but don't want to break a fin. Rumble/Frenzy, Ratbat and Ravage, just once. Optimus only once. Rodimus Prime v1, never.
