Not that I'm complaining of course, I'm actually thrilled! (I thought it was the second best movie of the year, preceeded by The Simpsons ;)  )

But movies like Pirates of the Caribbean came out in May (I think..) and I haven't even heard anything about its DVD release. Simpsons came out near the same time as Transformers and that's not coming out until December.

Again, not that I'm complaining, but how come Transformers is coming out so soon?

Why not come out this early? It's not like DVD's take so long to produce these days that it wouldn't be out for almost a year(like a few years back).

    "It's all about the Benjamins!"

Hell, anyone who has On-Demand through their cable provider can rent movies the same day they are released on DVD. This means on October 14th, Transformers will be available On-Demand for like $6.95. For those of you too cheap to put out $19 for the DVD, it is TOTALLY LEGAL to videotape the On-Demand showing of Transformers or any other movie you get to watch at a later date. Just don't reproduce the taped movies to sell copies - that's called "Piracy." Arrrr!

This is a good question, since the movie is still making millions fron the theater. And by the rate its going, it might even reach shrek 3 in BO. So I'm not sure why they're releasing it early on dvd since less people will see it in theaters if they have dvd already.

Paramount has an exclusive HD-DVD deal for the next 18 months (from August, I think). They want to get as much product out there as soon as possible to maximize their profits and that means cutting into sales for Spiderman 3 before it comes out. If TFs comes out first, the logic is that more people will buy HD-DVD players and, thus, buy more of Paramount's movies on HD-DVD instead of Blu-Ray.

At least, that's what I figure. Either way an earlier release for TFs is good news for me. :)

I know. You'd think with (currently) being the #20 film of all time they'd want to keep going for all it's worth. Why not milk that AND the DVD too?

    What's a Benjamin slang for?
    I'm assuming money.
    What's the etymology of it?

Because shortly after the movie came out, there weren't any damn toys to be had.
Now the toys are back..en masse. Before we knew the DVD release date, we knew there was supposed to be this resurgence of toys circa October.

So, do you wait until December to release the primary sales driver of all those toys that are back on the pegs now...or maybe try and have both available simultaneously this time, and for as long as possible?

My vote is for the toys. With kids basically being unable to get any since June, they want the movie out as soon as possible to "re-imprint" on the kid's minds, now that toys are able to be found again. And start them on Xmas.

I think it is a great marketing deal people have seen the movie now they want to own it! Better on dvd then people getting it on demand and burning it to a dvd. Its a great way to make sure that they get all that is worth out of the dvd before all the other blockbuster hits come out. I am excited that is all i can say.
