So what do you guys think about starting a Radicons Wiki? Personally I think it would be a great resource for customizing. I know we have the tutorials sections, but a wiki seems like it would be easier to navigate and build. We could even include the history behind certain customs and customizers. Some example topics could include: - Paint (which could lead into articles about the different kinds of paint, and techniques) - Scratch-building (which could encompass Styrene, glues/epoxies, etc) - Dying plastic - Devastator (history behind the custom, it's typical component parts, etc) - Popular customizers (Ptitvite, F_R, Jin Soatome, etc)
I like the idea except for featuring radicons there or having any kind of gallery outside of tutorial. Reason being is that I would rather people come here to see the gallery and interact with eveyone that posts their work. If it was just a setup of "how to's", I think it would be nice.
Essentially, our place is sort of set up this way already. In terms of tutorials, all one does is post a thread on the said topic, detailing it as much as one can (especially with photos), post it properly, then it falls under moderator review. From that point, we do everything to clean it up for easy reading. Once complete, it is moved to our Tutorials section and hyperlinked on our table of contents page. In terms of the topics suggested, they're already covered here. Also, in terms of navigation, that's what the search box is for. A Radicon also has the right side bar to navigate well, too. Honestly, I think we're set up just fine That being said, if any of you have any suggestions on things, by all means post em
I agree with SQ7. In all honesty, it seems like a good idea in theory, but why would you want to visit another site for Radicons into/tutorials when you're already here? If anything, I'd say a Radicons wiki entry could include a short summary of what this place is about, what we all do, and where it's located (with a link to it).....simply to inform those that may not know about Radicons (ie. Radicons is one of the largest kitbashing resources.......so on and so forth). Other than that, what you need is already here, bro.
I think personally its a cool idea, but I have to agree with both Sq7 and hxcpunk23 on this one. Because they pretty much explain it.
I searched "paint" in the tutorials section and didn't come up with a general entry on paint. Nor one that linked to corresponding topics. I have to disagree that navigating a wiki wouldn't be easier (or at least, very different) than navigating a forum with a search tool. They're very different animals. Also, I wanted to clarify that by "wiki" I didn't mean Wikipedia.org, but a stand alone wiki site, which isn't uncommon for hobby or special interest sites to have. That being said, I'm glad to see that it generated some discussion and thank everyone for their opinions I think ultimately that the powers that be are happy with the current set-up, and that's cool. I don't know that I'm abandoning the idea of a kitbashing wiki altogether, just the "Radicons" label that would have been slapped on it. As for a Radicons Wikipedia.org entry, I think that's a good idea.
You know I think if we have a wiki page it'll be more of a back up or at even terms with this site it'll both say the same things, but the wiki would be more detailed. Even though this probably won't happen, but it would be nice. But still this idea is very intriguing to me.
That's interesting, because there's a whole section right near the very top of the Table of Contents on just paints. We don't have a tutorial simply listing what are good paints to use, because that is such a varying opinion that you really wouldn't learn much from it.
If I were to write an article about paint, I wouldn't list what are good paints to use. It would be a more general explanation of the types of paints that are commonly used (like acrylic, enamels, lacquers), appropriate thinners, what they generally can be sprayed on/under, and the pros and cons of each (as well as noting any pro or cons that are debatable). Of course, such an article could be written and added to the tutorials section.
