I may or may not be the first one to think of this idea, but I really want snowball fighting to be a winter olympic event. Sounds stupid and silly, right? Here me out. Picture two teams of 5 competing against each other similar to dodgeball. The goal is to obviously eliminate your opponents by hitting them with a snowball. Now incorporate bunkers to duck and dodge the snowballs, but stay too long in the bunker and your team gets a penalty. I think it would be a ton of fun to watch. and it gives the games some variety. Look at the events now. Most of them are either in the skiing or skating catagory. If I have to sit through another Ice dancing program where every couple does the exact same dance, I'm gonna puke. It's time to mix it up. Relive your youth and whip a nice big ball of snow into someone's head...for your country! Who's with me?
I want to see skateboarding as an olympic sport. The Japanese and the Koreans are into it, I have heard that it's popular in Britain and Germany - I've seen skate punks in Britain, so, if nothing else, I know that it exists there - and we've got a few contenders here in the states. It's one step down from snowboarding, but it'd be great for the summer games.
Imagine if Tony Hawk had pulled the 900 at the Olympics. Damn, I still remember watching him do that live at the XGames for the first time, and being floored and the whole room screaming. And we weren't even that big into skateboarding.
My cousin Mike has made me an amateur fan of skateboarding; I remember watching the X-Games with him and listening to him name off every damn skater involved...that boy was hooked. Of course, this is the same kid who, at age 8, could land a kick-flip, so I was pretty sure skating was in his blood from the start.
Am I the only one that finds it odd that shooting is a winter olympic sport? I suppose it is most like archery, but it just doesn't feel right. It's too mechanical.
Actually, I think a snowball fight would really spice up the Winter Olympics. Winter Olympics are trash compared to the Summer Olympics. The only real sport is hockey. The snowboarding and skiing events are okay. I can watch the figure skating if there is a hot chick, but they just don't compare to basketball, swimming, running and the even hotter chicks in the gymnastic events. IMO the best thing about the Winter Olympics is that it means there is only two more years until the Summer Olympics. Conversely, the worst thing about the Winter Olympics is that it means there are two more years until the Summer Olympics.
fixed it for you. The Olympics just don't seem special these days, especially when they're on a 15 hour time delay and they're still trying to shove it down your throat.
the only reason curling is even on TV is because of the two sisters....either that or there's no other event going on at the same time (like the summer version). the only sport i like watching is snowboarding (which i'm learning).....but here at work, we watch everything (just for the heck of it)...the best one so far is when dude tossed the female (sorta) during the figure skating (yesterday or 2 days ago)
snowman building should be an winter olympic event, as well as pole licking. if skateboarding became an olympic event, do you think it would retain its 'cool'?
There ya go, now you're on the right track. This all actually started when I saw the biathlon. Jux is right, the combination of the two is even more bizarre. It should be a triathlon of cross country skiing, downhill sledding (with the cheap orange sled) and fort building. They need to stop rehashing events and start making the winter olympics about winter.
they should have a swimming contest....cross country (running), swimming (swimming) and biking (biking)...all in the snow...that right there would be a real ironhman competition.
Well along with "The Thrill of Victory" There is "The Agony of Defeat" (You have to be old enough and in the U.S. To remember ABC's Wide World of Sports opening)
