Oh that is SO MUCH better! All the red was really busy and distracting.

I would totally buy that as well.

Love both, would gladly take either!! Hell, do a little bio work and convince me that one of the versions is the Cybertron-Side's Guardminder-style disposable troop builder, so I can justify buying a fleet :lol

Given the care they've put into having full main-line cross-compatibility, I'd be utterly shocked if they weren't.

Re: the possibility of a Grand Max repaint... I shall pass people's comments along to SND (as they obviously have final say over what gets made) and see what they say.

I can just about grasp the concept of "less red"... :p :p

    They certainly are. :D

After seeing Wargod's recolors, I agree a little less red paint makes it look a lot better to me, partially because I want it to match the aethetics of Hasbro. Either way, I'm getting one, also +1 on a Grand Max release.

I plan on picking one up too. besides, it's not hard to use paint thinner or rubbing alcohol on whatever I don't like. *shrugs*

Sweet baby Jesus, I've been moaning for a new Cog to go with TR Fort Max for ages, and this one looks amazing. Love that it has a TM head and the Elite Dangerous-esq Buggy look of the Gasket part. Can't wait to see test shots!

Awesome! So he'll be about the same height as the likes of POTP Orion and Rodimus too. Big beefy bastard! :D

Keep in mind, all the red paint apps will probably look better on actual plastic than the render, most molded details do.

Finally someone spots the inspiration! :D

I've never actually played Elite Dangerous, 'cos nowhere near enough free time, but it's right at the top of "games I want to play if I had the time, but don't, so I can't, yet". I just happened to be watching someone play it when I decided I wanted to give the figure updated alt modes, and the shape of the SRV just sort of clicked in my head.

One of those weird connections, in the same way that the X-Mortis kit was named after Evil Dead, via a Deep Purple song. :p

That's almost exactly the words I used to describe him when I was figuring out what he should like. :D

I went with "burly" instead of "beefy". :p

I do love the odd bash on Elite. It's one of those games that takes a while getting to grips with, but it is a great game to throw on, stick on some music and explore the cosmos. I am utter keck at the combat mind you.

But definitely good choice for the alt modes in both cases! Would I be right in thinking the grommet component is somewhat inspired by Warhammer 40K tanks? Certainly has that vibe about it.

Come on, it was close to lunch... food was on my mind :p

Some call Cog a drone. In my world, he’s Fort Max’s chief medical officer voiced by Robert Picardo.

I want to get into it, so I can go punch some Thargoids. Their ships freak me out, I love 'em. :p

Lemme put it this way: the lass who I watched play Elite is a massive, massive 40K fan, so it's entirely possible.

Food is never far from my mind, to be fair... :lol

I always thought the yellow bits on his shoulders look like rank markings, so I went with the idea of him being Fort Max's quartermaster. Sort of like the battery sergeant in Fort Max.

So therefore, in my head, he's welsh...

I don't have tr fort max (still have my g1 since I was a youngin) but I am SO buying this. All modes look great and cross compatibility with the main tr line is a HUGE selling point.

I love everything about this guy can't wait for preorders

Right, update time! As promised, I spoke to SND about the red on the figure, and we put our heads to figure it out.

We wanted to keep a tiny bit of red, to tie the two halves of the bot mode together, visually, y'see, and we needed something to break up what would otherwise be a vast sea of blue on the limbs (which'd look kinda bland).

Cue SND and their really elegant solution, that I really like, and that I'm annoyed at myself for not thinking of first... :p

"replace some of the red paint with grey"

So, without further ado, have a gander.

SND-07 BA Rotodon GREY PAINT APPS.jpg

So, less red, but the paint apps still break up the blue, without being overly obtrusive.

I'm happy with that, what do you lovely people reckon? :D

    Want a fun fact?

Half the reason I wanted cross-compatibility to be such a big thing is because I don't have Fort Max, either, and I wanted this dude in my collection. :D

Hah! That's great. I ended up getting a full tilt off a board member a few weeks back so now I'll get a rival for him. Who needs titans?!
