Not often do you see a 3rd party product so crappy that only ONE person rabidly defends it.
Id almost agree except that its a home made garage kit. One person designed and is producing these, hence it taking so long to make. 100 kits, ALL those cast parts ? yeah... kinda the main reason Ive stood up for the dude. and for about the 50th time, my saying if you cant put up shut up, is/was completely beside my main point, which was its pretty dumb to just hit and run with belittling comments. THATS IT, and damn it feels like a broken record saying again..
Whether you like it or not, its a SHIT TON of work. Not even gonna try to defend price either, if you dont get how/why that works out at this point, trying to explain it to whomever I would imagine would be like titts on a bull.
Ill remember that, if you ever design a piece of shit to try and sell and/or whatever too. Id of maybe stood up for your hard work just as ..rabidly, when people trolled on by to just say your piece of shit sucked >.>. EVEN if you didnt care what people thought or commented!
The artist cares less about the hatin than I do, Im sure. Im just not affraid to speak up when people are acting a fool.
I don't recall complaining about the length of time it takes to make at all. Was there a reason why that point needed to be made? Again, I said I understood production cost. I said already, from a consumer's perspective it is underwhelming. I explained my reasons, such that it wouldn't be exactly what you don't like to hear "it sucks" and leave.
Home made Garage kit can look awesome still. I have a couple of people in mind who casts their own stuff, and I think those are pretty wicked. I suppose it's my point of view, but it doesn't look all too appealing, simply that.
"Mmm-Bop" or Slap Shot?
I guess I just felt like it should be said, in retrospect that particular comment wasnt aimed at you. and yeah man, I have no gripes with what you said, Im just already in .."rabid" mode I guess, so.. pretty much whatever came my way, ya know?.
Not liking or wanting to own something is, needless to say, cool. IMO, its not that big of a deal to say you dont like something either, even if you cant articulate the x y and z reasons. But yeah, just to slam it and run... Half the people that did it probably think it was dumb to do now too.
edit: yeah, I said "whomever", didnt even need to think back on it I guess. You said something about price, and i just said that bit as another means to defend my points. that particular comment def wasnt directed at you specifically, apologies for it looking that way.
The fact that the artist is producing everything himself is fine, he is to be commended for his effort. However, effort isn't everything, the final product must be appealing in order for it to be a successful sell. Any work of art will have it's detractors and supporters, and to decry those "hit and run" responses (as you put it) for simply stating "this looks like crap" and then "running away", I would respond that there's no difference between that and the blanket comments of "cool" or "looks great".
The only difference is, whether the responses in question share your opinion, and the ones that don't will be attacked. That's what I surmise from your responses.
Anyway...I thought this project got cancelled?
That's nice. Thing is, I WON'T design a piece of shit and try to sell it. If I ever do try to design/sell something I'll listen to the majority on the design before dropping a ton of cash/time/commitment on it (unlike what they did here). Most people haven't exactly been glowing with excitement over this from the get-go.
You need to quit taking this thing so goddamn personally. It's not your product. I'm sorry if you regret spending the money on it now and feel the need to lash out at people who think it sucks like they are calling your kid names, but still - it's not your concern. Whining about the whining is just more whining.
another difference would be that one of those examples is "positive" and the other is "negative". I agree hit and running with "awesome" or "that looks like crap" is hella just as pointless, but Im not gonna look at someone blindly praising someones hard work like an asshole, where I obviously would the latter, personally. To each their own tho, I was raised like "if you dont have anything nice to say, blah blah", so.. thats that I guess. Like I said, I really dont care what people think about it, positive or negative, Im just devils advocating. Because its the internet, and I can safely and anonymously say whatever horseshits on my mind ::shrugs::.. same as anyone else.
and no, still in production. I guess people that ordered still get updates on it.
I cant even imagine how long it would take to cast 100 of these.. When all is right, he can evidently pump out like 2-3 kits a day, but that "getting all right".. Just looking at one piece of styrene to cut, I feel like I could be spending dozens of minutes just dicking around with that single piece, trying to get what I felt was just right.. I work on old houses remodelling, I know first hand what its like to have something that should only take a little bit of time end up becoming the bane of my existance. If hes anything like me, a long time ago he would of started with the "fml, why the hell did I take this project on again?... I was just trying to be a nice guy;;"
edit: lol mmm... that was kinda weak tbh, yer better at hating than that >.>
If you dont, good, I wont have to troll all over your face and post about how badly whatever you did sucks. I could say your rebuttals are taking it personally too, and that you should quit being an ethug since its nor your concern.. but I wont. I dont regret getting one either, for the record, which Ive stated since even the roughest teaser pics.
double edit: I also find the "lashing out" bit a little absurd.. Im reading back, and while I was a smart ass commenting in a couple instances of responding to smart ass comments, I was pretty much rationally staying on topic with my original point, which is lost now Im sure, in this myriad of crap of a thread. and on that note, Im done. I feel like Ive sufficiently explained, and defended for some reason, my POV.
Regardless of how much time, effort, skill and money was invested to make this figure, nothing will change the fact that it looks worse than an over-sized, KO Kabaya candy kit. I will never think it looks good nor will I ever purchase one.
I don't think it's that much different from City Commander with it comes to sculpted detailing. Forget about paint apps for now and compare the various components, the amount of detailing is comparable.
As the saying goes dont judge a book by its cover, I still think its gonna be amazing because thier putting alot of effort into it and they update the buyers too thier basically starting from scrath because thier molds for the armor had broke and they had to remake it. Also thier are the only ones too that are doing another trailer (GodBomber) and a powermaster or some small figure that comes in that set that will be another optional head. Thumbs up to these guys.
ill stick with my powered comander armour
The "backseat editor" part comes from feeling a "responsibility" to do it, rather than simply adding detailed critique because you want to.
End of the day, even though it's beneficial to have more detail in responses, no one's paid to do it or should be expected to. If the responses were "looks good", that same viewpoint isn't given, even though the response is just as short and undetailed.
Basic research is the responsibility of the designer or design team though. Blurr said that this person frequents the site, so boom, right there he has access to I'd say the majority of the fans who'd buy this and their wants.
From there, he can see that classics figures are all of the rage, and upgrades that are even better throwbacks to the G1 figures in a "classics" way are instant buys for most people.
So... what does he do with that knowledge? Makes a less detailed version of the City Commander armor, and then for a head does what looks like he took a decepticon symbol's outline, stuck an insanely small optimus face towards the bottom, and basically just took that outline and gave it a half-inch of depth as a basic, 3-D block.
What was the mentality behind this? What did the designer expect fans to say? How much did he expect fans to pay? A lot of the complaints across the board on this are things that shouldn't even have to be said to someone who did the least bit of research before putting this out for sale.
Also, the argument could have been made that if the designer posts here and was looking for critiques he could have posted this in the radicons specifically for C&C. Instead, this is presented as a final product, and at that point people either like it, or they don't.
This man deserves a dinner... a chicken dinner.
Regarding the backseat editor - I gotcha, now.
As for the research, there is a thread in the Radicons area. I'll freely admit I didn't read all 25 pages, but from what I did read, there's a whole lot of positive responses: Link
Wow...The first appearance of Duplo Optimus Prime.
I like it, but not even remotely within my budget.
Looks like crap. *walks out*
That looks hideous How much are they going to charge for it again? Also at pharaoh optimus, Maybe they should repaint it in sand colors.
The reason WHY I criticize the convention, is because they were responsible for bringing the vector project to the convention. You're telling me you wouldnt be mad, if you saved money took time away from your family to go to Botcon, and when you got there the figures werent there. Not to mention they new they toys werent going to be ready ahead of time, but still made you think everything was on schedule. Thats not how you conduct business. The polite thing would have been to notify everyone who had ordered the figure that it wasnt going to be ready. So yeah, it is harsh, but when I left the convention I was out 150.00 in Gas money and emty handed.
While I don't know the details of this event, nor what they are charging for it... it doesn't feel like many people are privy to what I believe is the origin of this... which is a scratchbuild radicon project.
So while I won't comment on what is being charged and so forth, I would be quite offended if I was the designer working on a personal project with limited means, and for whatever reason someone decides to run with it and then the internet blasts it because its not some huge company operation making it.
So, I realize everyone's money is there own and competition is fierce, I still think that considering this is a pet project by own of our own... maybe the tone could be a little different.
the guy made that out of styrene in that proto. I don't believe its molded. Viewing this from that standpoint, the progress so far is incredibly impressive. As a big budget 3rd party toy, obviously its not a contender... I just wonder who chose to make the move to that type of release.
