How have I not heard of this before now?

SOURCE: The Toys"R"Us 2011 Holiday Hot Toy List Has a Video Game Ringer

It's coming for most platforms (Wii, 360, PS3, 3DS) and the PC, and has 32 playable characters. The characters are "summoned" into the game with this portal unit that you put one of the 32 figurines on to. Each character levels up and gets new equipment as you play with them. You can see how it works and some of the gameplay here:
Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure Demo - YouTube

I'm not going to "catch'em all" but I might grab this game and a few toys. I dig the "Pokemon meets Gauntlet" game play. Does anyone else find this interesting?

If you ignore the spyro namesake (for nostalgic reasons, cus spyro is fugly now) it's pretty cool. I got to have a play and see some of the figures last Friday and I was pretty impressed. I like how the figures work cross platform too, so I could play the 3DS version then say my mate had it on 360 I'd be able to use my figure and have the same stuff =]

    I'm looking forward to it.

FYI: The 3DS version of the game is completely different than the console version and seems to play a lot more like the original Spyro games, based on the gameplay demos shown.

I'm just counting this Spyro as a different version, kinda like Paper Mario is not the same Mario as the 3D versions.

    Yeah, that's him.

Just purchased the game for myself a few hours ago. So far it's very good!

I'm curious about this. Saw a guy at Best Buy playing it. Is it an adventure game, or a battle monster game? I saw him flying Spyro around an island, but not much more than that.

Picked up the wii starter pack and a 3 pack yesterday. Not had chance to play yet, but the figures are awesome, very well detailed =]

Now I just need a wind and wood figure and... Dammit I'm being sucked in =p

It's a mix of both. My wife took me to TRU yesterday and had me pick out the Wii starter kit, two adventure packs, and the legendary pack for part of my Christmas gift (so I'm not going to get to play it for a few months :( ). The main game is an adventure game that at any time, you can swap out the character you are playing as with a figure on the portal. Each figure levels up and gets new spells and abilities as you play with them. You can then put a second figure on the portal and either do two-player co-op or go to a battle arena and have to monsters fight it out.

The starter pack comes with the game, the portal (the Wii portal is wireless, I don't know if the 360 or PS3 version is), and three figures. You can play through the entire game with that, and don't actually need anything else. But, if you want more characters, you pick up more figures. Also, they have these Adventure packs (two have been released so far) that act as DLCs. They come with a character figure, two item figures (they unlock a new spell and a new item in the game) and a landmark figure (like for one set the figure is a pirate ship) which unlocks an entire new level in the game.

I'm not going to get any more creature-only packs, but I am going to try and collect all the Adventure packs.

Activision did say that if the game sold well, they'll try it with other franchises. (A transformers one would be cool)

Knowing the little I know about this game, I think I would faint if they did this. Your collection would automatically have a second value.

Activision is doing Fall of Cybertron. Could you imagine how cool it would be if they incorporated this same tech into FoC figures?

I just did a little reading on this game. The concept is pretty cool and innovative, especially the cross platform playing (however it could get expensive REALLY fast!) I'd think about getting it but I don't know if my wallet could fight off my need to get all the characters, levels, etc.

Im hoping to stick to the same idea. I just want one creature of each element, especially now I've played it a bit and realised that all of the element doors have hats behind them.. Which are totally awesome btw, and then I'll just buy the adventure packs I think =]

The best way I can described the game as is a kids version of Gauntlet, and I loved the gamecube/arcade version of that so it's even more awesome. I was a bit unsure if it'd be worth it but totally feels worth the money now =]

I got sooo sucked in. Dropped about $100 at TRU today (but buy 2 get 3rd free means I got some stuff for free). Brought everything home and said "alright, we'll open up the starter pack, try it out, if we don't like it, we can return everything else". Well we loved it. I played it, 10 year old daughter played it, wife played, we played together... needless to say we tore open all of our booster packs. Then I went on TRU.com and ordered the rest of the boosters. Figure they're good for some stocking stuffers come Yule time.

Anyone wanna buy my TFs on Crave so I can pay off my TRU card next month? :lol

So I think this looks awesome! Just far too out of my budget range. But TF FOC with this would be awe-insipiring.
